I had it clearly to Calzaghe by 2 rounds. Don't forget he had injuries and had been ill around that time, one of his worse performances he'll admit. I think he hung in there and didn't allow Reid to be that effective even late on, so it was a clearer win then sometimes made out.
Calzaghe did seem to have problems with Reid, but he had far more with Salem. I would like to ask why none of those who criticise Calzaghe ever mention that fight?
To recap:
He alledgedly didn't make weight but cheated to get around it(I don't think that's true, but that was the accusation from some)
He lost his temper at the weigh in and shoved Salem's trainer. They had to be separated.
He walked straight onto a right hand that knocked him down, just like against Hopkins
He headbutted his opponent and got away with it early on
He heatbutted his opponent again late on and got a point deducted
He didn't come close to stopping Salem, but Bute later KO'd him
Without a doubt the worst Calzaghe performance I have seen. Calzaghe clearly deserved the decision, but that was mostly because Salem was ****. I have no idea why it hardly ever gets brought up by those that hate him. Possibly because no one bothered to watch it.
Calzaghe looked horrible against Salem. he almost lost that fight, he looked really hurt by that right hand that put him down.
Ive always heard that Calzaghe was going through rough times with his divorce, so he gets a freebie there. fighters have off nights, it happens. and he clearly had a bad night.
a question Ive always wondered was about the scoring though. Calzaghe deserved to win, lets get that out of the way. but one judge had it 118-107. ok now...what the hell. Calzaghe got a point deduction, and got knocked down. thats guarenteed 3 points off, right? how did a judge give him a 118-107 win, it should have at least been 117-107 or whatever.
whats goin on there...
