Look Hopkins is finished. He's got no stamina and should retire already. He's got nothing left to prove.

He was picked for one reason only. That's for Pavlik to better beating him than Calzaghe did. And that should be easy considering the fact that Calzaghe fought his worst fight in several years against Hopkins. So this fight is a set-up for a near-certain Pavlik-Calzaghe fight. Smart move in the eye of the general public.

Pavlik really shouldn't be getting much credit for fighting such an old man. The better road from a hard-core fans view would have been to take on Abraham now, by paying off his mandatory.
Hopefully he will fight Abraham after. I also think Hopkins should retire. I don't like seeing him fight as a shadow of himself. But since Abraham isn't paying of his mando who does he have to fight? Hopkins is the smartest fight for him at this time unfortunately...

Do you guys agree that this will likely be Pavlik's biggest payday?

I think the Pavlic fans are underestimating just how much of a spoiler Hopkins can be !!
I can see it being the usual hopkins fight!

The move of fighting Hopkins is very smart from an economic viewpoint. By defeating Hopkins convincingly the public demand for a Calzaghe - Pavlik fight will be enormous. It might be so great that Joe doesn't keep his retirement-promise and go along with the fight. That is if he's hands can hold up.

The odd man out is Abraham, who'll likely have to go back to Germany defending his belt. So Abraham will be the loser, and so will some of us reasonable posters here on NSB who'll have to 'enjoy' the flamers/spammers duck-threads with Abraham playing the part.

If Roy called out Benn, Why didn't Benn fight? He went to the USA all the time. So going there to fight Jones was nothing new....
Benn wanted Jones but Jones fought a lesser opponent (at the time) in Hopkins. Jones fans always like to use the "never left their country" excuse even though Benn came over and bashed up some Yanks that were favoured to beat him. McClellan was a much more dangerous fight and he wouldve got a far smaller payday than fighting Jones.....Benn wouldve fought anyone at that time.

                BUT

Benn did technically avoid Jones in 1996 by which time he was well past his prime. He wanted $10m to fight Jones because he admitted he would probably lose and just go in swinging trying to KO Jones.

if thats the case and you believe that Hopkins beat Taylor you must believe that Miranda beat AA in their first bout. If that was in the states the fight wouldve been stopped.

Actually it was Arum who was approached from Hopkins promoters for the fight from all what I have read. They knew Bob was looking for an opponent for Pavlik and they contacted him advising Hopkins was available.
