If Tyson had stopped Douglas in the 8th, where would it rank among comebacks?

For 7 rounds Douglas was whooping Tyson, then out of nowhere Tyson landed one uppercut that had Douglas down for a 9 1/2 count. Douglas got up, was saved by the bell, and went on to knock Tyson out in the 10th. Here is the punch in question:

Would it have been on par with Corrales-Castillo I?

It would have been a pretty impressive comeback, but Tyson still would have caught a lot of steam because he was supposed to steamroll Douglas.

I think it would be a few notches below Corrales-Castillo I for the simple fact that it's more common for HWs to change the tide with a single punch because they're much bigger men.

      Nice thread btw.

I agree with this post and the one above it, still given the great effort Douglas put forth I'd have given Tyson a lot of credit for coming back to KO this guy with one punch.

Maybe it'd have been on par with Julian Jackson-Herol Graham.

Because Douglas was so lowly regarded, it would have been forgotten relatively soon. A comeback like Whitaker KO'ing Hurtado stands out more to me.

Yeah but still Hurtado was a prohibitive underdog to Whitaker when that fight happened and few thought he'd drop Whitaker twice.

If Richard Steele was refereeing that fight Tyson would have gotten the knockout.

Douglas beating Tyson IMO is the greatest upset in boxing history. It sent shockwaves around the world.

It woudn't have meant much. Up to that point Mike was bein outboxed but he wasn't takin one of those brutal and tough to watch beatings. Had he stopped Buster there everyone woulda just exhaled and said, "Damn, it's about time Mike." After that, it woulda been easily challked up to Mike just not expectin the guy to really challenge him and forgotten quickly.

It wouldn't even be considered a comeback. Douglass was winning the fight but Tyson was ahead on every scorecard and Douglass, not Tyson, was the only one to see the canvas up until that point. It would've been remembered as another KO win for Tyson and that's it.
