Marquez Not Worried About Casamayor's Weight Edge

Juan Manuel Marquez moves up to the lightweight division on September 13 to challenge Joel Casamayor at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. With wins over Diego Corrales, Nate Campbell and Michael Katsidis, many regard Casamayor, who is beltless, as the champion at 135. Marquez moves up to follow Manny Pacquiao, who moved up in June to capture the WBC title from David Diaz. [details]

I don't think the weight advantage will be too much of a factor either, Marquez will have trouble dealing with Casamayor's style though.

JMM is my kind of warrior- he has always wanted to fight the big boys. Oscar De La Hoya, please take note.

this is going to be a very interesting match up. since this will be Casamayor's domain, he wont really wont have the pressure to make this a war, but rather sit back and examine what Marquez is going to do. If Marquez is coming in this fight completely cautious, which is the way he should go in as far as strategy since he's a natural counterpuncher, then this fight will turn out to be a hardcore fan's fight. But Marquez is looking for a 3rd bout with Pacquiao and a dull perfomance regardless of a win could jeapordize the chances of it happening.

This is a fight where I see Marquez being the agressor, but by applying controlled and cautious pressure. Normally, size advantages serve fighters who apply constant pressure since they can use their weight to bully their opponents, but Casamayor is not that type of fighter and I think he understands how dangerous Marquez can be. We're going to see the same ol Casamayor, not moving around AS much because MArquez isn't going to be the biggest puncher he's faced. But he will be using his laterral movement and that left is going to be in full effect.

I think the weight might be an issue. I'm not sure that JMM needed to step up to 130, but it offered fights with Barrera and Pacquiao. Now he is doing the same thing again, I think it may harm his performance.

Looking forward to this fight and the Guzman/Campbell one. My money is on Marquez. Casa looked great against Katsidis, but so should any world class fighter against a glorified clubfighter.
