Stop saying Margarito is ducking Williams, it's not true.

I can't stand how people are saying that Tony is ducking Paul Williams when it is simply not the truth.

    1. First of all he is less than 14 days passed his biggest and toughest fight, having fought two of the heaviest punchers in the welterweight division, He is probably in a spot where he could take a less grueling fight as long as it is an acceptable welterweight champion or contender.

    2. The money that Goosen is offering is most likely legitimate, but the 4 million would not be Margarito's purse, it would be the guaranteed amount for Top Rank for Margarito's services on the night, after which they would split the rest of the profit. So to break things down Margarito's final purse would not be 4 million, it would be a bit more than half of that which is a decent purse but he could make it elsewhere as well.

    3. Margarito's team is talking about making a bout on November 1st which would actually not be a problem for making the Williams fight or even taking the Williams offer, because the Goosen offer would set the fight date in early 2009 which is still very doable.

My whole purpose was to point out that Margarito is not ducking Williams and I am certain they will fight again in early 2009 assuming they both keep their titles and maybe even claim a few more along the way. The Williams fight is definitely the fight we all want to see, but we will just have to wait a little bit longer than expected.

    Opinions?

" GOOSSEN OFFERS ARUM $4M FOR WILLIAMS-MARGARITO II!
    By G. Leon

Dan Goossen has informed **********.com that Goossen-Tutor Promotions has made Top Rank Inc. a $4M package offer for WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito to face WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams. Williams captured the WBO title from Margarito via unanimous decision last year. If Goossen's offer is accepted the bout would take place in early 2009."

your issue on #2... although true... makes no sense... its his highest purse... even if he doesnt get all the money, its sitll his highest purse...

WITH THAT SAID... if someone offered him less than 4 million... margarito would end up getting even LESS, then he would have fighting williams..

dude it doesnt even bother me. We all know the truth. It's the same people saying margarito would get embarrassed by cotto that have now jumped on the williams bandwagon. i don't even read most the threads that have to do with such a ****** assumption.

You can't say he is ducking anyone at the moment because he's just come off the biggest and toughest win of his career, he's not going to take a fight with anyone unless it's a big money fight like De La Hoya until he is ready to get back in the ring.

What about Goosen slating the bout for early 2009 though, it would just be another fight made along the way and on top of it, not replacing it. Any offer of about 2.5 million directly to him and not top rank would just about match it. I'm just saying I think he could make both bouts and make the Williams one even bigger.

Don't let it get to you. Margarito is on top so it's expected that some people would try and bring him down by making ****** assumptions. We all know the rematch will eventually happen. Let the haters hate but they know MARGARITO is the man at welter.

not true.. he got 3 for fighting Miguel..

You think Top Rank is giving Margo 3..of the 4 that Goosen is giving him?

              You arent a PROMOTER REED..

if Goosen said here is 4 mil MArgo, that would be different.

He is not the man till he takes care of Williams. If he does win that fight then i would happilly say that he is the man at ww

ps. would he have to clean up the titles at ww to become linear champ? i know that there is no linear champ at ww, so how does one go about becoming linear champ in this instance?
