    Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns

Just looking through his box rec record and could not believe that he went from welterweight - Cruiserweight (IBO title)

I watched the interview with him and Haggler and he said after Haggler he was going up to super middle weight, i just assumed that after he lost he stayed at welter/light middle but **** me he took an MW, SM, LH & CW title.

Is he officialy recogniosed as a 6 weight world champ?

I know Sugar Ray Leonard beat him but who is regarded as the better boxer? i seem to think that it is Leonard but both Haggler and Hearns had better records imo. Who out of the three fought the better quality fighters and who was the best?

Did Leonard aviod Aaron Pryor? Is there anyone Haggler and Hearns avoided?

The first man to win six (6) world titles in six (6) different boxing divisions: (1999-04-10): from 147 to 154 to 175 to 160 to 168 to 190(200). The first ever champion to be considered a Sextuple Champions in boxing.

taken from wikipedia but also from knowledge ... i just wanted a source to back up what i knew!!

not sure if Leonard avoided Pryor but i wouldnt be suprised as the Hawk was one of the most ducked fighters of his age ...as for Hagler ... he ducked NO ONE!!!

Is it just me or does Suagar Ray get more hype than Hearns.

What he did is an incredible achievement, him and Haggler are two of my favourite boxers. Haggler was the man. The war between them both was unreal.

But Leonard beat them both. Hearns twice. Bummer

Dont think that there has ever been another 6 weight champ has there? Roy has 5 thats the closest i can get.

Leonard is generally considered the best because he has wins over the other big names of the era (Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Benitez). Many do criticize him for his lack of longevity though.

Hearns is usually thought to be the most talented of them all, only lacking in stamina and ability to take a punch. He is recognized as a welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight champion, the cruiserweight belt was a minor one.

Hagler is often ranked as the greatest middleweight of all time. It can be argued that Hearns was the greatest light middleweight, some may rank Leonard the greatest welterweight (it's hard to put him over the original Sugar Ray though).

There is no definitive proof of 'ducking' by any of them, although Leonard is criticized for not giving immediate rematches to the other names and some believe he 'ducked' Pryor.
Hearns never fought Mike McCallum at LMW, but that's about the only top fighter he did not fight. McCallum was no big name at the time but on hindsight it would've been a great fight to determine the best LMW of all time.
Hagler could be criticized for never moving up in weight like the other three did although he was a relatively small middleweight, shorter than both Hearns and Leonard.

I would not consider him a 6 time champ given that the IBO championship a not significant belt.

Sugar Ray was the smatter fighter..He used his mind to beat both hagler and Hearns. he showed them up to the judges and the crowd. And we all know judges pay attention to the crowds. Even when a fighter flurries and doesn't connect if the crowd goes wild the judges feed off the excitement I mean come on they are human after all right?? Sugar Ray was great at stealing rounds watch some of thos efights you speak of and he stole rounds made you miss and waste your energy and used his stamina to beat you. At least that is how he beat hearns and hagler. the win over hagler is more questionable and depends on which part of the round you score..Lefty

All in all, you made it sound like you couldn't tell who was the better fighter out of the Fab 4. Good post btw

Hearns was a great fighter, his shortcomings were as TheMachine said, his stamina and his chin.

I think Leonard was overall the better boxer, Hearns' style just gave him massive amounts of problems and Hearns really deserved to win their second fight.

That is a great question that will never be answered. Check this video out at 6:19. Pryor challenges Leonard right to his face and Leonard kind of shrugs him off.
