When he did trade with Margs on the ropes, he never went to the body like he has in past fights.

      Ask Miguel Cotto that question.

He went in thinking he could lose imo. That is why Floyd would whip both Cotto and Margs. He goes in thinking he can win any fight. Margs imo wasn't confident before he fought Williams and you sw what happened.

I disagree with that last comment. Margarito was overconfident against Williams, and he just assumed that he would slow down and eventually wilt under his pressure. Williams showed a solid chin and tremendous will to win. A rematch is necessary to settle who is the better welterweight.

But after watching the fight 3 times, there was just no way he could have gone to the body if he's boxing margarito by pedaling backward. he would have to reach in and that would have put him in more danger.

so have u see a person attack the body while pedalling backward?
I think Cotto summed it up perfectly. He said he did not have the openings that he needed for a strong body attack. Credit that to Margarito. Cotto also said from the outside it looks easy and different from what he sees in the ring. I take his word for that.

[U][QUOTE=flipbjefrox;3896974]pernell whitaker never made a concentrated effort to the body while he's moving backward. so did ali.....

I disagree with that. Pernell Whitaker was an excellent body puncher and was not in the same category with Ali when it came to body punching. Whitaker was never a runner. He fought flat footed and used upper body movement more than anything else.

I don't know who will win the rematch either. I'd favor Williams right now, but this is a great fight that has to be made. Either man can win to be honest.

Good post. This is why Floyd uses the ******* jab to the stomach. You can't block that shot unless you turn or are moving. Cotto used this shot and it worked, but he never committed to the body. I spoke to a few boxers about this J-born and they agreed that if you can't weaken a man, he will come at you all night if he is trained.
