Can u consistently attack the body by pedalling backward?

    K. i asked this question cuz i've heard people repeatedly complain about how cotto could have gone to the body more.
But after watching the fight 3 times, there was just no way he could have gone to the body if he's boxing margarito by pedaling backward. he would have to reach in and that would have put him in more danger.

so have u see a person attack the body while pedalling backward?

You can hit the body going backwards but there wouldn't be any power behind the shots so it would be useless.

Well all that movement is what did him in as well. I think he could have sustained a better body attack with in an out movement, as oppose to dancing all night. He could have also tried circling and throwing body punches more of a hopkins style, as oppose to his attempted SRL style.

pernell whitaker never made a concentrated effort to the body while he's moving backward. so did ali..... so i guess cotto's style during that fight which was to box from the outside took away his brutal shots to the body

You could attack the body, but you would have no leverage.

Yeah but Pernell and Ali were brilliant on the outside. Cotto is maybe a little too small to be fighting at the end of Margarito's punches.

I can't believe how many people are surprised that Cotto didn't go to the body more. He chose to use his speed and fight at long range where he thought he had the biggest advantage. Like you said he can't go to the body and fight at long range. There is a big difference between digging in on Antonio Margarito and Alfonzo Gomez.

Floyd seemed to consistently land his jab to the body on hatton.

He was scared to get caught, and that is why he didn't body punch. Against any fighter you have to go to the body even if you aren't tall or long enough. You have to do something to help wear the other guy down. Cotto had the faster hands. Cotto's problem was he didn't have any confidence in his right hand. Cotto came in with the wrong game plan. He went in thinking he could lose imo. That is why Floyd would whip both Cotto and Margs. He goes in thinking he can win any fight. Margs imo wasn't confident before he fought Williams and you sw what happened.

Whitaker always went to the body. He held your arm and always threw a strong straight left to the pit of his opponents stomach. Ali had what you call pin point accuracy, athletic ability, reach, and fast hands...none of which Cotto was gifted with. Cotto should have went to the body. When he did trade with Margs on the ropes, he never went to the body like he has in past fights.
