I know people don't like to think this way, but it's true. You could have just as easily have been born Black in the Bronx as Mexican in Mexico.

So, to root for something that is essentially that trivial, is insane. You can like a certain style, certain fighters. But only because they happen to 'look like you', that means you are blind to the truth.

Anytime you deny people the truth, it's dangerous.
    thats a good answer!

It's understandable that anyone root for their countrymen in boxing. The P.R. v.s. Mexico beef will last forever, but appreciation it's other thing. I'm puertorriqueño de corazon, but my favorite active fighter right now is mexican. If he fights a puertorrican I'll root for my boricua.Besides I don't like John Ruiz, but good luck to him.

no problem with it but some guys take it overboard and outright say their country has the best fighters blah blah blah and talk up a whole load of ****, that annoys me but just looking up to or being a fan of a boxer from your country because he is your countrymen is not bad at all.....

and how can one make a mistake while "rooting" for someone?

"rooting" for someone means you wish them to win and hoping for them to win.

"rooting" for someone doesn't mean you think that person is gonna win or is the best.

how is wishing the best for someone dangerous?

to make judgements based on race/nationality is wrong. to cheer or root for someone is not.

there is absolutely nothing wrong in having pride in someone's nationality/race.

That's fine, but the fact remains. You were born a Dane by accident. It's nothing to technically be proud of. You can be happy, that's fine. But pride is reserved for those who are actually accomplishing something BECAUSE they are a Dane, for example. But, Kessler isn't good because he's Danish. He's good because he works his ass off.

That's where you're wrong. You can be proud to raise a son in what you consider the correct fashion. You can be proud with how hard you tried to accomplish a goal. To be proud of an accident (like where you were born), is ridiculous. You were born to the parents you were born to, in the town you were born in, on accident. Nothing special about it. Doesn't make you any better or worse. It's all an accident.

I said nothing about wishing the best for someone being dangerous. I said keeping the truth. Don't misquote me.

When you act as if a fighter is better to watch strictly because he's of the same race as you, you're lying to yourself. It's not life-threatening. It's dangerous, however, in the sense that it limits you. Doesn't allow you to FULLY appreciate a great fighter of a different... sect.

One poster even said, 'He's Puerto Rican, but his favorite fighter to watch is a Mexican. However, if he fought a Puerto Rican, he'd root for the Puerto Rican.'

That makes no sense. Like who you like, and keep it moving.

The 'mistake' I was referencing, by the way is the 'chance' of you being born what you were is/was just as likely of you being born somewhere else as something else. The only constant is that you would (I'd have to assume), still be a boxing fan. So, like who you like for the right reasons. You enjoy watching them.

Not because you might be 17th cousins or some bull****.

And he speaks my language, is available on TV and to the local media. Heck I like a lot of fighters but I cannot see them as easy as I would like from where I'm sitting.

And this might be the points from me: Speak my tiny language and mediaavailability.
