    James Toney is overrated

I really don't consider James Toney to be an all-time great.

Look at all those losses on his record. He was schooled by Roy Jones, much the same way that Lacy was schooled by Calzaghe.

He lost twice to Montell Griffin, who was easily dominated twice by Jones (although in the first fight Jones got DQ).

Yes, Toney moved up those weight divisions, but he was caught cheating with steroids twice. If he really is an all-time great, why did he need steroids? He's probably is a natural super-middleweight or light-heavyweight, but he's had to move up higher because he isn't smart enough to control his weight.

Man i stopped reading there because if you think Jones was dominating Griffin the first time then you clearly didn't watch the fight!!

I think he is. To say he does not have talent is crazy to me, he obviously has great talent. He has fought pretty much everyone, and i can't think of anyone he ducked, I am not sure about his standing as an all time great. But i think he is a great fighter..

Does the positive weigh out the negative? In my opinion it does, He acheived a lot in his career and his defence has always been second to none, Steroids didn't help him acheive that.

Nowadays his defence has slipped, But thankfully hes got a granite chin to back it up, Toney won't retire for a while, He loves the spotlight too much.

He was class to watch for sure, but I'm not sure he was quite the boxing genius some think he is. Undoubtedly one of the best MW-LHW of recent times, but there are a few guys I'd rank with him, Jones, Hopkins, Calzaghe, Benn, Eubank etc.

I dont care what those judges saw, Toney beat Griffin in the rematch. Clearly.

The fights on youtube, watch that ****.

In their first fight, a less-than-100%-focused Roy Jones toyed with Griffin for several rounds, and then put him down. Jones was DQ for hitting him again when he was down.

A better focused Jones easily knocked Griffin out in the first round of the second fight.

Griffin was not all that good, yet twice he defeated Toney.

I think he's overrated but he's still a good fighter never the less.

The best thing Toney has is his great chin...

So Jones gets to be less than focused, but not Toney?

That's how these threads work right?
