Clottey had good defense, but like others have said stayed in that shell too much at time and lost the rounds he did just because he was inactive. When he did let his hands go he was very accurate and landed shots that were clean and effective. That lunging right of his is awkward, but it lands pretty consistently.

maybe that's why Clottey uses his defensive much more so.

because he was very inactive in the early rounds, and didn't really get going till about the 4th and 5th.

and didn't come on strong till the 9th.

he probably purposely fights more defensive to conserve energy.

and I'd agree that what he did vs Margarito does get over stated WAY too much, as it was only 4 rounds and it's not like Tony was even close to being seriously hurt or staggered

it would be in Clottey's best interest to go after Berto, because he's not gonna stop Margarito, and if he becomes too defensive vs Marg will be in danger of getting out worked.

I thought he looked good. Very strong defense, strong and pretty accurate punching power. However the problem is his activity he just doesn't seem to let his hands go too much. I don't know if he feared Zab's power adn thus respected it too much even though he claims that he was never hurt in this fight nor in his entire career but either way he just doesn't throw that often and no matter how many 'clean' shots he hits someone like Margarito or Paul Williams with I guarantee you that he WILL get outworked and he will lose UD decision because unlike Zab and his miniscule 143lbs frame, the giant Williams/Margarito WILL be able to endure Clottey's INFREQUENT onslaughts so he's gotta up that punch output alot. His corner was telling him the same thing they kept yelling at him to get busy and let his hands go but he seems too afraid to do that.

Clotteys a bit underrated IMO...hopefully last nights fight helped

              Hes very tough
              Well conditioned
              Good Defense, blocks very well
              Works well off the guard
              Dedicated to his craft
              Punches good

hes gotta lot of good aspects to him and i think if he can hang with Margarito its safe to say he can hang with pretty much any other WW in the division.

Clottey has an excellent defense and very good poise in the ring. However I don't think he punches as hard as it appears. But the bottom line is that he is a difficult nights work for any welterweight.

IMO Clottey's lack of power holds him back the most.

because 20 kayo's is impressive don't get me wrong, but still, Joshua doesn't have fight ending power, and that holds him back, as he has to work hard all night long to get rounds in the bank and get the decision.

granted he did get a win by stoppage his last fight before Judah, but that was a questionable, and absolutely awful stoppage.

I've seen him tee up on guys ala Flores and Alvarez and be unable to put them away. plus Clottey couldn't even kayo a blown up Lightweight in the late Diego Corrales.

his strengths are well know (physically strong, solid defensively)

but that lack of power, will cost him vs the Elite Welter's.

like how do you guys see Clottey fairing vs Paul Williams or Margarito for example?

I think he looked great, even the rounds he was losing, be blocked all those shots..

He was pretty accurate, didn't fade, and pretty explosive with his shots..
I'm glad he won, hes one of those guys who had to fight everyone to get where hes at now..

Good performance.. Ill be looking forward to see him fight again
clottey looked like he could beat margarito in a rematch.

Clottey looked very strong last night. He seemed like a pretty good winner too giving Judah some credit. There are a lot of fights out there for him that I would like to see.
