    What the message achieved:

    1. Floyd might come back and fight guys like Cotto, Margarito, Paul, Clottey and Berto
    2. If Floyd doesn't come back HBO has already made a statement that he was not the best at WW so their new guys get all the PROPS without having to hear about Floyd.
    3. They made it clear that even if DLH fights Pacman at WW he is still not a top 10 WW.

Nobody at all is questioning "their right". i absolutely believe in freedom of the press. Max is a color man and SHOULD be giving his opinions. Fair play.

The question is whether the sport is being held hostage by the shadow of Floyd Mayweather, jr. And, to me, it appears so.

Correction: HBO can't erase the fact that PBF was the champion who gave back the belts.

yeah good point Dios, from the viewpoint of
Kellerman, it would seem the sport is being held hostage, because he basically lashed out at a retired fighter.

but at the same time some of Kellerman's criticism is absolutely warrented, because flip back to just 2-3 months ago when Cotto-Margarito was signed and sealed, the Pound for Pound #1 was lining up a September rematch vs DLH, someone he already defeated.

so granted times change, and Mayweather retired, but still Floyd (a Welterweight) was lining up a fight vs DLH rather then take on the best in his division.

I don't even like Kellerman all that much (too hit or miss for my taste) but there is a lot of truth to what he says regarding Floyd .. even The Ring Ratings would agree
and I think it's safe to say that DLH-Floyd 2 was considered long before Cotto-PBF or even PBF-Margarito

plus if Mayweather really does stay retired he really should have no comment on the Cotto-Margarito fight as any criticism from Floyd would be met with "you aren't planning on fighting either man, so shut up"

Floyd is retired until he says otherwise.

and as glad as HBO may be about Kellerman calling out Floyd, I bet they can't be too pleased about Max criticizing and questioning DLH taking on Pac-Man.

It ain't strugglin to move on without him at all. It's just that WW is boxing's best division and everyone there is pissed he left without fightin them. But they don't need him and neither do we. Tony pretty much said he's done callin him out cuz he knows the answer, and everybody else should feel the same way. **** it, the man's retired. Leave him alone and concentrate on what's happenin now, not woulda/shoulda/coulda.

Even last week, after a terrific fight by Margarito and Cotto, the specter of PBF loomed large in the aftermath of the event.

For whatever you thought about Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s career (*****, great, coward, unfinished, whatever), it must be acknowledged that Floyd has spent the past two years talking about how he wanted to leave the sport. He then announced his retirement, thereby leaving $30 million plus on the table to fight a guy he has already beaten.

And since he has "retired" (quotes for the benefit of his detractors), he has done NOTHING to indicate that he has a fire in his belly, or a passion to fight. He hasn't attended many fights. Even in his hometown. He hasn't granted many interviews. He hasn't called people out or made threats. Even his continued gymwork was revealed by Amir Khan, not by Team Mayweather. And this absence is coming from one of the biggest media whores in pro sports. In sum, Floyd has not done a Brett Favre.

My suggestion? Boxing should move the **** on. Cotto should fashion a comeback trail and rebuild his career. Margarito should take the $4 million "offer" from Goossen and try to avenge his loss to Williams. Oscar and Manny should move forward with their farce. Berto should step up in class and make the Clottey fight. Zab should continue his career as an overhyped gatekeeper to the WW division. Calzaghe should try to make fights with every 40 year old fighter he can find.

If - IF - FMJ decides to come back, we'll discuss the options at that time. Until then, the commentators, fans, fighters and posters should stop ****-riding..... because he has given you no indication that his next fight is imminent.
            I agree.

Looking at the way things are now, it seems clear that Floyd was serious when he announced his imminent retirement after the De La Hoya fight.

He held it back for Hatton because the money was too good to turn down for relatively easy work.

When it became clear to Floyd that the money he would make from a De La Hoya rematch would not be equal to Oscar's purse, he shut the door permanently.

Cotto might have been able to draw Floyd out if he had beaten Margarito and Oscar. But he couldn't.

Floyd isn't coming back. He retires an ATG.

            The End.

Do u think maybe that Max brought up Floyd's name because it was a WW fight card??? Boxing is moving along just fine. The reason Floyd's name is constantly brought up when the conversation or focus is on the ww division, is because Floyd left at a time when there was unfinished business and many questions left unanswered.
