First of all, Pep had great defense FOR HIS TIME. But his defense isn't better than Floyd. Is not. Floyd is a transformative fighter. Pep would be facing a guy who is bigger, faster, stronger, a better puncher, and every bit as skilled as him.

It would be like Pernell Whitaker vs Roy Jones. Pernell is great, but...
Which is why, in my first post, I had a bit of a problem with this being billed at 130. Regardless, the difference with Cotto/Margarito and Mayweather/Pep is that Mayweather can't throw with WRECKLESS abandonment. He wouldn't be hurt with most of Pep's shots. Regardless, if he doesn't see Peps sneaky shots, he's gonna feel them.

Furthermore, Pep is a defensive master, in any era.

25K points if you show me an example of Pep defending IN THE POCKET better than PBF.

There are plenty of defenses. That's a tilted argument and you know it.

Pep isn't that type of defensive fighter. Just like Winky Wright is more of a peak-a-boo defensive fighter. Two different animals.

Also, if he's chasing him down, he won't have to defend in the pocket to begin with.

Well i doubt there are many Willie Pep experts that are even alive today. Floyd is a pretty dirty fighter forearm, holding, pushing so i think this would give Pep some problems. Floyd also has a much longer reach and is taller so i think Floyd could do some good work on the outside also. Willie for sure is no ***** though he would make it competitive, and i am fairly sure he would not let Floyd knock him out.

But you have seen Floyd defend in the pocket. on the ropes. on the perimetr.

thus my argument that Floyd is a more diverse, varied and complete defensive fighter than pep.

Pep can defend with his feet. no doubt. great at it. Floyd can defend right in front of you and make you pay with power shots.

Pep was better at moving and defending and better coming off the ropes. Both had their strong points, but Pep was better at his style of defense. To my personal likings.

This is not a knock on Floyd, I just rank Pep very highly, appropiately.

Doesn't seem that easy, to be honest.
I think Pep wins.. you pretty much said it in this post.

yup.. only for his time right?? is that why he is one of the top 10 greatest of any and all time?

LOL @ the thought of Floyd Mayweather stalking and opponent down as well.

Well, I think it speaks volumes that the poll is 50/50 against a top 10 ATG. So this is in no way embarrassing to Floyd. It's just that the usual advantages that Pep brings are offset in this matchup.

Saddler may give floyd a tougher battle because he was stronger. Some people forget that Floyd was a real hunter at 130. the new fans who only saw him from baldomir forward assume that is his usual fight style. Wrong. At 130, Floyd was coming for that ass.
