Miguel Cotto sucks

I'd take Williams and maybe Clottey over Cotto and both of them over Margarito. The WW division is so messed up right now. Rankings based on ability vs. rankings based on accomplishment could be widely different.

This guy was hyped as the man to top Mayweather and become the best in the world, the "fighting champion" as it were. This was the guy who was willing to take on anybody and was going to bulldoze "cowards" like Mayweather.

This guy lost to a slow, telegraphing every punch, untalented walking chin with 5 losses.

I'll always use this situation as a basis for deciding if a guy knows what he's talking about because there were actual "experts" out there who thought this guy was the real deal. HBO was all over him, hoping he would be for them what Mayweather wasn't.

Well, the truth hurts and this guy has no chance of ever coming close to Mayweather type greatness now.

did you really have to make a thread about this??? first of all u have said this so many times already in ur posts i dont think a thread was necessary. and second styles make fights. just because cotto couldnt beat margarito it doesnt mean he cant beat mayweather. margarito is a horrible matchup for cotto!

I think you're overreacting a little by saying Cotto sucks. He faced a guy ALOT of boxers ducked and didn't want to fight. And he didn't have to face Margarito he could of easily fought someone much easier then faced Delahoya for easy money. He should be praised for stepping up and taking a High risk low reward fight. Too bad there arent more fighters like Cotto these days.

To answer the last two posts at once:

I am glad Cotto fought Margarito, but he needed to fight him whereas Mayweather didn't. There wasn't anybody on the planet who didn't think Mayweather was the best in the sport. Guys had to earn a shot at him, not the other way around. Cotto had a lot to prove. He tried and failed, but good for him for trying.

But if you can't beat a one-dimensional guy like Margarito, you do not have the stuff of all time greats. Mayweather is an all time great. Cotto clearly is not.

Now, Cotto completely outboxed Margarito for six rounds, and Cotto's boxing skills just aren't that good. Mayweather wins every round of a fight with Margarito except the ones he doesn't try to win.

Cotto doesn't suck, I'm just playing the other (more accurate end of the spectrum) from the fans who said he was better than Mayweather. If he's better than Mayweather, he has to be an all time great and one of the top 5-10 fighters ever. He's not.

To me, this proves nothing about a Cotto vs. Mayweather match up. (Note that I did NOT say that I think Cotto would beat him, only that it proves nothing).

Two different opponents... can you say for SURE that Marg wouldn't beat Mayweather? He's really heavy handed and Mayweather would be working 3 minutes of every round to try and outwit him.

I'm not saying he WOULDN'T, but can you say for SURE?
