Margarito's Manager: "De La Hoya is Afraid To Fight"

Last weekend's knockout of Miguel Cotto was not the outcome that Oscar De La Hoya was banking on. Prior to last Saturday, the two candidates in the running to face De La Hoya in his farewell bout were Cotto and Manny Pacquiao. After Antonio Margarito pulled off the upset and knocked out Cotto in eleven-rounds, De La Hoya immediately set his sights on Pacquiao, and ignored Margarito as a possible opponent. HBO has reserved the pay-per-view date of December 6 for the final fight of De La Hoya's career. [details]

DLH wants to go out with a win over the guy that brings him the most money and that right now would be Pacquiao, unfortunately.

De La Hoya must fight Antonio Margarito for reasons (A) he is too big for Pacquiao to handle, (B) he, unlike Cotto, is able to physically match Margarito and (C) he has already promised that he would like to fight the winner of Cotto - Margarito. Please don't do anything that can take motivation away from Margarito. With Mayweather being retired, De La Hoya - Margarito is the best possible way to revive the traditional welterweight division. Mexicans won't hate you Oscar. On the contrary, they'll praise you. Give Margarito an opportunity of a lifetime to make a name and money for himself!

I don't think De La Hoya is scared of Antonio Margarito, I admit it will be a really good fight but look at it on the business side of things. If DLH were to beat Margarito(though I see it 50/50), there could be a posibility Mexican would hate him for it and would be less likely to buy a GBP PPV event afterwards. Just my opinion.

"Golden Boy" is considered one of the best fighters of all time. He deserves a show against the Top P4P fighter on his last bout and this should be no other than "Pacman" if we refer to BoxingScene's list posted today. "Golden Boy" can fight against any other boxer on any ordinary show, but on his LAST, he should go against the best, in line with his intentions against "Money". Motto: FIGHT THE BEST.
