Quick Summary: Cotto got the crap beaten out him, knowing that his power had no effect on Margarito. Imagine Tyson in his prime, undeafted and winning all his fights by K.O and facing a fighter he could not hurt. Cotto will be affected Mentally.

    A question to all

Was Mugabi the same after Hagler took his best shots and got K.O'd????

Yeah, but we're talking about NDou and Edner Cherry. a couple of limited lightweights.

True but it's relative to Paulie's talent level.

Joe Frazier is an example of a guy who took a Cotto-like beating. Punishment-wise. Still, Joe's mental state was not where Miguel's was. joe was SO ANGRY that Eddie Futch stopped the fight. i think they stopped speaking.

Miguel was retreating and looking for a way out. Agreed?
I have offered several recent examples as well (G. Johnson, H. Gonzales, Holyfield), others have too. But the Louis vs Schmeling fight might be the most notable that comes to mind.

Like I've said, the majority of fighters do not come back from a beating like that. But Cotto could, and I actually think he will.
He did not cry about it or make up any excuses, he accepted his loss, said that Margarito is the better man and is looking forward to the future.

Miguel was broken down, but the physical beating was not the worst I've ever seen. Not even as bad as most of Frazier's fights which he actually won.

Was Mugabi the same after Hagler took his best shots and got K.O'd????
Well, he did the only notable thing in his career after that loss, which was winning the world title. But it's a good example of a fighter not being the same after a loss.

Another one from the same era, Davey Moore against Duran. But he also had his most notable win against Wilfred Benitez after that bout.

Jermaine Taylor took 10 times more punishment from Pavlik than Cotto took from Margarito.

              REALLY?

When's the last time a fighter came back undiminished from that type of physical and mental beating? Name 'em.

I have seen many fighters - including some recently - who were on an upward arc, but had their careers derailed by exactly that type of beating... or a similar thrashing.

              Examples:

              Hamed post Barrera

              Lacy post Calzaghe

              Hatton post Mayweather

              Taylor post Chavez

              Vargas post Trinidad

I'm hopeful that Miguel will be back and will be as good or better. but, as a betting man, the odds are against it.
plain and basic common sense. margarito has ruined cotto. cotto will be the next jeff lacy.

                Ya people getting over yourselves.

                Cotto is a robot.

He'll be back fully calibrated to "I will Kill You" mode.

Ya people OD on these forums.

                The beating wasn't that bad.

Pavlik landed about 100 punches. Margarito landed about 250.

That isn't the be-all-end-all, but it is indicative.

You are missing the point by arguing with this clown. Cotto did not take a very bad beating.

Was his face a mess? Yes. Why? His nose was broken, he was bleeding from the mouth, his eye was cut.

Getting cut doesn't indicate you took a beating. It indicates you just got hit by a WW with 8 ounce gloves.
