Please re-read my original post. It was not disrespectful. At all. but the Ricans are so hyper-sensitive because they didnt expect their man to run and take a knee and quit. So they are turning it into something it isn't.One thing to consider is that it wasn't a one sided beat down like some of the fights you mentioned. Cotto was winning the fight, just couldn't keep up the pace and Margarito go the better of him of course.
That could be used as motivation for Cotto. He can use that and tell himself what he did wrong, what he needed to do differently, etc. Also, he now knows he's not invincible. A healthy dose of reality can be a good thing.
But only time will tell. No one knows how he'll be. Personally I hope he does bounce back, he was always entertaining and like him or not, he was down to fight the best. Gotta respect that.Comment

He will be the same.
It's not like he stood there 11 rounds and took countless hits to the head. In the 11th round, he got thrased yeah, but Jermain Taylor got thrased too and came back and looked pretty good and was the first to push Pavlik 12 rounds. It all depends, just cause you take a beating doesn't mean you aint going to be the same. Cotto is still on a elite level, he just fought to the better determined fighter that night, any other fighter that night, Cotto takes them apart easily. And you got to factor Cotto couldnt breathe with that busted nose caused by a vicious uppercut that his stamina was highly affected by it. He'll come back just fine. Maybe even better too.Comment

nah I don't need to re-read your post, I got what you said and I wasn't saying you were disrespectful - I was just generally saying "you" (as in anyone reading my post) has to respect what he's done.
As far as his fans, you know some fans are always going to hold their favorite up too high. Just the way it is

Jermain lost by K.O 1st fight but he didn't lose knowing that his power had no affect on Pavlik. It is different. Margarito vs Cotto was like Mugabi vs Hagler In that Mugabi couldn't hurt Hagler and got K.O'dHe will be the same.

If Miguel had been knocked out instead of quitting like a putica, his fans wouldn't be so angry and defensive this week.Comment

I see alot of fans (mostly Puerto Ricans) saying that Cotto will be back "better than ever".
REALLY?
When's the last time a fighter came back undiminished from that type of physical and mental beating? Name 'em.
I have seen many fighters - including some recently - who were on an upward arc, but had their careers derailed by exactly that type of beating... or a similar thrashing.
Examples:
Hamed post Barrera
Lacy post Calzaghe
Hatton post Mayweather
Taylor post Chavez
Vargas post Trinidad
I'm hopeful that Miguel will be back and will be as good or better. but, as a betting man, the odds are against it.
Hmm... Thats a god point.. Very good point... but doesn;t mean its true.. You might win in court though.
If cotto has a few tune ups and rememebrs to box he can win the rematch though.
Great points though .. mostly because of the obvious examples you gave.Comment
