I agree with the poster of this thread. Cotto was winning the fight up until the point of his knock out. he didn't just get caught with a lucky punch though he was getting hit with alot of shots in most exchanges he was getting hit very hard to the body. I saw some replays and Margarito was doing an onld school number on him punching his shoulders his neck his arms. Just beating his body down. I said it from the otustart it was only a matte of time the way things were going. In order for Cotto to beat Margarito he has to do it in the center of the ring. Coutner punch the way he did and get out of range. He has to also go to the body alot more. The usual Cotto left hook to the body was missing he was mor eof a 1-2-3 to the head guy all fight./ margarito has IROn inhis jaw and he showed it. He has to be broken down much the same way he did to Cotto to be KO'd. If Cotto could have landed mroe in the fight and clinched every now and again he may have had enough left in the tank to toake it the cards. My honest thought is if Cotto want to take it to the next level he needs a new trainer. His Uncle has taken him as far as he can at this point he need to sharpen his boxing skills to beat bigger fighters. he can win a rematch but he defintely needs to heal properly not come back to fast and watch the tapes go voer what he did correctly and what he can improve on. He has to figure out a way to take less punishment. he needs to get inside deliver his blows and get out with out going to the ropes. I also think he needs to bring on a new trainer maybe a fredie roach or the guy who trains Marquez Bros?

I think cotto will be alot smarter in the rematch and not punch himself out, and allow margarito to corner him on the ropes like the last fight, the last fight cotto was putting on a boxing clinique up until the later rounds, i didnt know he had that in him even in losing he showed something great.

I really dont see Marg KOing Cotto again, speaking of which he didnt REALLY knock Cotto out in the 1st place....his corner throw in the towel.

LET IT BE KNOWN....IM NOT HATING ON MARGARITO. JUST STATING MY OPINION.
It was Cotto that said that he could not get any shots to Margarito's body. So let's give props to Margarito's defense, which many of you said Margarito lacked.

To counter your second statement, the only reason Cotto was not knocked out was precisely that, his corner prevented that from happening. There was about 45-50 seconds left in the 11th round. Had they not thrown the towel in Kenny Bayless would have stopped it.(we hope he would've). In my opinion though a stoppage whether by the ref or corner is still a KO.

I am and was for Margarito all the way. Cotto to me is still and will continue to be a great fighter. It is a shame though that some people still do not want to admit that he was beaten and beaten badly. They make excuses for his loss not wanting to really admit that it he was beaten but rather lost the fight due to lack of adjustment, physical preparation or whatever. Yes, he was winning the 1st 6 rounds, yes he was schooling Maragarito. But none of that matters at the end. Had the fight gone 12 rounds there is a very good chance Maragarito would have gotten the decision. VERY GOOD CHANCE.

I like this post. The only part I disagree with is the props for Margarito's D. Tony was great and fought a tough fight, but it wasn't his defenses that prevented Cotto from going to the body, it was his offense. Cotto couldn't go downstairs because of the constant pressure. To do so would have opened him up to be hit even more.

Kudos to both guys though. Cotto was the more skilled, but Margarito proved that that doesn't always determine the outcome of a fight.l

Cotto was doing a fine job of running, or a delaHoya impersonation.

Margarito by KO in 6rds in the rematch. Cotto will not want a rematch.
Top Rank are already talking about a rematch. It'll happen.

But like dude said, Cotto was winning the majority of the rounds. Most of the Marg fans are just cumming because their man won. Not taking anything away from Margarito, but it was very far from a one-sided fight. You guys need to get off that cloud just a little bit.

You can't be serious and tell me Margarito was winning the fight up to the 7th-8th round. Take your win with a bit of dignity as most of the Cotto fans have with the loss.

It wasn't a one-sided fight but it was a one-sided ass beating from round 6-11.

Watch the fight again...Cotto was taggin him 6-7th round. I wanna say towards the middle-end of the 7th Cotto was getting hit with shots. but even in the 8th & 9th rounds Margarito was still getting tagged. Cotto fatigued and Margarito took advantage. I have no problem with the loss, it is what it is...but some of ya'll are making it look a lot more one sided than it was. That's all.

Cotto's punches didn't have the same pop after the 6th round, I've seen the fight 7 times already papi, thank god for DVR.

Shalafi shut up, even in the ninth when Cotto was fatigued he was still hitting Margarito, it doesn't matter if the punches had pop or not papi, is what the judges see
