I dont he is, simply because elite fighters find a way to win, they use their head, Shane has never been known to be smart in the ring. When he boxed Cotto in the mid rounds and won easily, he resorted to the macho type fighting he is used to, thats dumb. Why go away from something you are winning with? Doesnt make sense, youre obviously basing your reasons on Shanes accomplishments at lightweight, well I dont give him that much props for that because he was WAY bigger than those guys, if he starts his career at 147 is he still elite to you? He would have far more losses I know that.

Last night was just proof that skills don't always pay the bills when you have someone with some balls and a granite chin infront of you. Cotto's really never fought that fight he fought last night, it was new to him. Mayweather wouldn't be the agressor and wouldn't pressure Cotto like Margarito did and would not wear him down. Therefor Cotto has a better chance against Mayweather then he did against Margarito. If you don't know that styles make fights then you've never watched boxing because Mayorga beat Vernon but got completely outclasse by Oscar. Triangular correlation don't work son.. Cotto is a VERY VERY VERY good fighter. Margarito is just ****in unbelievable, that's all there is to it.

To say miguel isnt elite is unfair...

too much is put into a loss...its boxing...you are bound to lose sometime if you fight the right guy.

I think cotto tried to be smart but at times i think he's courage and heart got the best of him...there were times he was punching on the move and others he'd plant his feet and trade with margarito and thats what i feared would happen...i feared his courage would force him to stop and trade from time to time and that was his downfall...

if he kept his feet moving while boxing the whole 12 rounds he could have won that fight...i had it even after 10...if he didnt stop and trade he would have been ahead by 2-3 rounds at that point in my opinion.

he's still elite just because he's not THEE welterweight champion.
