I dont think he is, simply because elite fighters find a way to win, they use their head, Shane has never been known to be smart in the ring. When he boxed Cotto in the mid rounds and won easily, he resorted to the macho type fighting he is used to, thats dumb. Why go away from something you are winning with? Doesnt make sense, youre obviously basing your reasons on Shanes accomplishments at lightweight, well I dont give him that much props for that because he was WAY bigger than those guys, if he starts his career at 147 is he still elite to you? He would have far more losses I know that.

He ran out of gas.... Maybe due to the relentless pressure or the fact that Margarito was so much bigger than him.

Cotto may also have been overtrained. **** happens. He was outclassing Margarito for most of the fight until he was beat up in the 7th round then things started going downhill.

Cotto showed me so many good things last night, so many things which would translate to success against different opponents. Cotto proved he has flaws and proved he still needs to grow as a fighter. He'll be back though...Cotto has a lot of resolve.

Cotto should have won that fight on paper. the fact that he didn't tells you everything you need to know about him

Cotto should have added the hold into his repertoire from early on as part of his gameplan, like P. Will did against Margarito. You cant wait till the late rounds to hold because the ref wont let you get away with it, he will think youre doing it because youre hurt or tired. Elite fighters are cerebral, meaning they use their brain as much as their boxing ability, Miguel Cotto is not there yet.
He outhustled Mosley - proved he's elite in my book; He didn't balance out his game plan. Great point about learning to tie up. He also wasted alot of energy trying to take Margarito out early; combine that with defending on the move the entire fight; breathing thru a bloody possibly broken nose; and Margarito exerting a body attack with pressure - spellls a a disaster waiting to happen. Margo took advantage of all that like a great champion does. It'll be a learning experience and he'll be back.

At the end of the day, I can listen to all the experts, journalists, broadcasters who call him an elite fighter, or I can listen to the Floyd fans talk bull****.

Is it a coincidence the only posters saying this are Floyd fans? Probably not.

Cotto is most definitely elite. Say whatever you want, but Margarito out chinned and out willed him. I give him a good shot against floyd, but wouldn't make him favorite. I would still love to see that fight. I think Cotto has a better chance of beating floyd than Tony, but Floyd would never step up aganist either one of these warriors.

Cotto is a beast, but tony is undestrucable apparently.
