He is the president of 'who wants him club'.Honestly the guy was fighting Slobodan Milocevic and some guys from down there and you want Taylor to take him on?
I beat Froch straight up, I was robbed by the dirty rotten British scalawags!
I like Taylor a lot. I thought that he showed a lot of heart in the first Pavlik fight and I picked him to win the rematch (can't get 'em all right I guess).
It seems as if he's lost something on the mental side of things. I don't understand it though because he came back OK from the KO loss and fought well in the 2nd fight, but since then I'm not sure what's up with him. Pavlik has fought again since then and arranged his next fight, whereas nothing is set for Taylor. What has he been doing for the past 5 months?
I like Froch too and feel bad for him. If he tries to get a big fight, he can't because he hasn't beaten any big names. But he can't beat any big names because none will fight him.
A lot of the time, people who perhaps have not been following boxing for very long look at certain fighters and say "why didn't they fight" whoever. This is an example of why.
If Taylor wanted to have an easy comeback fight, I can understand it. But if that's the case he should've made it clear straight away, instead of messing Froch around all this time. You don't want the fight? Turn it down, but don't behave in the a way that is going to hold up the career of others.
People on here have brought up that abadger is a Calzaghe fan, as if that proves him right or wrong. What I find funny is that one poster in this thread spend a lot of time saying that Calzaghe hasn't beaten anyone, but when Taylor-Lacy was rumoured his response was "Wow, Taylor is the MAN for taking this fight!"
Here we go again. People on here complain about us Calzaghe fans defending him too much, but as can be seen here, if a Calzaghe fan brings up an unrelated subject, the response is often "but Calzaghe...", and then that's what the thread turns into.

For the record, what differs about this situation and the Calzaghe/Pavlik situation is that Calzaghe's camp talked up Pavlik as a possible opponent before the Lockett fight and then did a complete 180, saying Pavlik wasn't in the same league as Joe. Meanwhile, Taylor has been talking about fighting Lacy since prior to being bumped to the #2 ranking by the WBC (he was #3 last month and #4 the month prior). Froch was never even mentioned until the WBC stepped in looking for a money guy to fight for their belt.
No, the difference is that Froch and Taylor formally entered negotiations with one another, went to purse bids etc. whereas Calzaghe did not do this with Pavlik.
Pavlik was free to arrange a fight with someone else the whole time, but if he wants the belt Froch has no choice but to wait for Taylor to make up his mind.
ok Dirk I dont really follow boxing across the pond because there really isnt a need to so who exactly has Froch fought that is in the top 5 no wait top ten in the division?
Like I said I dont follow the welshies, frenchies or any other ies
please educate me
I understand that. A lot of Yanks are very insulated and quite ignorant to whats going on outside their own country.
Again, how can Froch fight the top guys when none of them want to fight?
Hes been calling out Calzaghe. Taylor doesnt want to fight him. He offered a huge line of people (Miranda, Kessler, Berrio) Inkin's spot when he pulled out and none of them wanted it.
Once again, how can he fight a top guy when they dont wanna fight him? This is the crux of the argument.
The WBC ordered Carl Froch and Jermain Taylor, its #1 and #2 SMWS to face off for the WBC title imposing an August #1 deadline for purse bids.
The Froch Camp offered Taylor 1.25 millon dollars for the fight.
The Taylor camp have turned it down and prefer to face Jeff Lacy with no belt at stake.
My thoughts:
I fully understand that Jermain Taylor has had some nasty losses recently and needs to get back on his feet. My question? Why on earth can't the supposedly 'elite' Taylor, who has in the past beaten Bernard Hopkins, do this against Carl Froch, who in the past has beaten nobody.
I thought 'true champions fought the best', in this case it appears that Taylor is not even prepared to try to be a champion, and will not even fight the distinctly average.
Instead he is going to stay at home and take a payday by taking on Jeff Lacy, thats right, a US domestic fighter he should beat easily.
This my friends is what we call 'being protected'.
Thoughts?
JT has a resume that almost no one in the sport can touch other then Pac......So I doubt hes protected.

Did you miss the part where the OP admitted that he started this thread as an angry response to people hating on Calzaghe? Unrelated? Right.

Hennessey/DiBella were ORDERED into negotiations by the WBC, which happened AFTER team Taylor had publicly stated their interest in a matchup with Lacy.
The WBC has forced this situation, not Taylor. The are asking Taylor to take a hit in pay to fight a less known fighter. Just because Froch doesn't have a better opportunity right now and is being strung along doesn't mean that the more popular, more lucrative Taylor should be blamed for weighing his options, which means waiting for tonight's result in the Lacy fight.
Jermain Taylor is not a protected fighter. That being said he is probably being protected in this instance. With the fighters he has fought it is ignorant to say that he is a protected fighter. However, there are times when clever and calculated match making has a role to play. He is just coming off two straight losses when he had previously been unbeaten. Facing a guy like Froch is pretty dangerous at this point so I think it is a smart career move for him to take a less dangerous fight or two before jumping back in there against elite competition. Take a look at Roy Jones. He got back in too early against a top guy and you can see what happened to him.
