The Double Standard

Not only a good post, but the critics of Floyd want him to fight all or a few of the top guys at welter. Comical. Floyd has been there and done that. He wants big fights. He did what people are asking him to do at 130. Floyd has not defended his title in 2-3 years they say. He has been moving up in weight I guess looking for easy fights all this time lol. Anyway, how come Floyd wasn't stripped of his title? It is because now the other guys are facing each other, along with Floyd paying the sanctioning fees? Cintron, Williams, Margs, Clottey have fought each. Margs has finally stepped his comp up. Cotto is just starting this unless you count 36 year old shane as top comp lol. Floyd is the true champion at WW, and the other guys are fighting for the right to a super fight with Floyd. Floyd does not have to line them up and fight them. He's been there and done that. Floyd critics only have one thing on their minds, and that is either saying floyd isn't great, or floyd is scared or ducking fighters. You guys wanted this Ring mag mess and !@$#@$ the sanctioning bodies. Look at what PAc and PAv are doing. Valero, Guzman, and Abraham who are talents are being left out, and having to face lesser fighters too because the big boys want to keep on fighting lesser comp or old comp. Pav and PAc, fight Abraham and Valero and stop telling us who YOU think is and isn't worthy. You fans who do this discuss me. Viva, Pelon and others, your own contradiction is smacking you right in the face.
What isn't beside the point is that the De La Hoya fight was Floyd's stated goal for years.
But you people act like he only fought Oscar to avoid something more dangerous.
Like fighting 2 classes above your optimum weight and giving up significant size and strength advantages to a live, legendary champ isn't dangerous.
Floyd's journey through the divisions was with one summit in mind.
The date with big time destiny against Oscar De La Hoya.
Mayweather and Cotto are in completely different phases of their careers.
Cotto is still in the phase where he have to fight every 4 or 5 months.
Floyd has made major accomplishments in the sport, across 12 years and 5 weight classes.
What was done in darkness came to light, and he no longer have to get out of bed for less than $20 million.
When Cotto does something to prove fighting him represents enough $$$ to make it worth Floyd getting out of bed for, Mayweather will fight him.
And beat him.
I would bet on it.
Meanwhile.
Cotto's resume @ welter really isn't that much more sparkling than Mayweather's.
If at all.
Margarito will be the first time Cotto has taken on a formidable opponent who is bigger and stronger than himself.
Floyd has been there and done that on a number of occasions.
It's time you bottomfeeding ****s paid some due respect to Floyd Mayweather Jr.Last edited by Boofdatruth; 07-19-2008, 02:55 PM.Comment

Ducking Cotto??...lol. Floyd wanted Dlh because he knew that fight was a big money fight. As it turns out, Dlh was discredited as being old, and the fight turned into the largest grossing fight of all times. Fans change only when it comes to their fighter being dissed. Excuses are given, just look at PAv and Pac's fans lol. You can say anything you want about a fighter you don't like.Comment

So its ok for Floyd to not fight the best welters and make a payday, but it isn't ok for Cotto to grab a payday when he is facing the best. Lol, hypocrit!!
Man, don't make excuses for the Judah fight. It was what it was. As far as Mosely being washed up.....no more than Oscar, and he was in the division. He could have fought Clottey. He could have tried to work out something with Arum to make a Cotto or Margarito fight. There were plenty of options.
Margarito is the first massive welterweight test of the kind you're talking about for Cotto.
The first.
Lol, are you trying to say Floyd was a more proven fighter at 147,k therefore Cotto wasn't worthy?
Cotto is in his 2nd and most suited weight class.
Mayweather was in his 4th and 5th weight classes, operating above his optimum fighting weight
Whats your point? If you wanna fight there, fight the best.
against formidable comp in Judah, Baldomir and De La Hoya.
Lmao!! Leave it to a nuthugger to call Baldomir "formidable" comp.
That --- combined with the mooted Cotto-De La Hoya fight likely being held at Cotto's weight against an even more washed-up version of the same fighter people say was too washed-up to credit Mayweather for fighting --- is the difference.

Winky wants Oscar or Pavlik in September
by SC on Jun 5, 2008 5:46 AM EDT
Winky Wright, co-promoter of last night's Wednesday Night Fights (main evented by Yusaf Mack beating Daniel Judah), spoke with Teddy Atlas about his future during the telecast.
Wright says he wants to come back in September, and he's looking for a fight with Kelly Pavlik or Oscar de la Hoya.
I like Winky Wright, and I certainly respect him as a fighter. He's a hell of a defensive specialist and while some find him boring, I find it exciting to watch anyone that good at anything. That said, Wright is kidding himself. The sport has moved on in his absence, and as good as he is, it's not like he's been terribly missed.
Bob Arum and Top Rank are working on getting Kelly Pavlik a major money showdown with Joe Calzaghe at 168 pounds
, looking to make Pavlik a three-division legitimate champion (160, 168, 175) in the process. That would be a significant fight.
Oscar? Jeez, Wink, stop chasing it. Oscar will make ten or fifteen times the amount to fight Floyd again that he would to fight Wright. Of course Winky wants to fight de la Hoya. Who doesn't? But it's a pipe dream.
It's good to know Wink plans to get back in the ring in September, though. What about legitimately possible opponents?
He could take on Brian Vera, who is riding high post-upset over Andy Lee. Vera's still one of the rumors for Jermain Taylor, but if Taylor can land a fight with friend Jeff Lacy, I think that would be preferable to him. It's winnable and a bigger name. Vera is best off at middleweight, and one assumes Wright will most likely want to return to 160. Vera would be a tune-up for someone as good as Wright, and he might never be more marketable than he is right now.
Andrey Tsurkan could try to move up and fight Wright. That'd be attractive to me, but that might only be me. Truth is, Winky's going to find a good opponent hard to come by. I don't at all doubt his claims that there aren't many guys wanting to fight him, because that's always been the case.
We'll have to wait and see. For now, I'm content to hear from Winky and glad to know he'll be back in the ring before too much longer.Comment

You mean the Valero fight? Valero showed skills. He always has since he became champion. You should check it out one day, and you will see the hypocrisy in people telling us how Valero is this open guy who is easy to hit. They based this false outlook off of one knockdown in his title winning fight against Mosquera.Comment

Jab....
Lemme get this straight:
Floyd's win is somehow less credible because his opponent was , er, BIGGER than him?
OK. Got it. Thanks.Comment
