    Suspend Diaz's Trainer?

Referee Bobby Gonzalez: "Oscar, How many fingers do you see?"
    Trainer Tommy Brooks: "Three."
Ref Gonzalez to Trainer Tommy Brooks: "That's a nice trick. I saw that."
Asst Trainer? to Diaz: "Hey come here man, come on."
Ref Gonzalez to Brooks: "You fool around, you get him hurt."
Ref Gonzalez: "Oscar how are you doing? How are you doing Oscar? I'm asking you?"
    Diaz: "Aaaarrrhhhhh"
Ref Gonzalez: "You wanna go on? You wanna go on?"
    Diaz: Stumbles'
Ref Gonzalez: Waves his hand "That's It.
Brooks: "Give Him water, Give me Water"
Ref Gonzalez to Brooks: "That's it. The Fights Over."

interesting. I dont think suspension. Diaz is a warrior, a lot of fighters have gone through hell, just some took it better than others. Diaz didnt take it well. I hope he recovers

I noticed this too. I am surprised someone just posted about his. I think he should have his trainers license revoked for 6-12 months. Now he saw first hand what ****ing around can do. I think too many trainers put too much pressure on there fighters. If the fighter feels he cant go on, dont make him feel uncomfortable to tell you that. If he doesnt want anymore dont keep pushing him to go back out there. I see this all too much. And as fans we are a little to hard on fighters when they quit on their stools too, which is also a factor. Fighters like Freitas, Tszyu, and others have boxed all of their lives. They are not *******, they just know their limitations. I will never talk **** about a boxer that quits on his stool. They know them selves more than we do.

Not as a bash in any way, but do you think these two comments could be perceived as being incongruent in some regards? Just curious to see how you would parse the differences as you see them.

If Brooks was trying to help Diaz with the number of fingers, it was only to negate the disadvantage of him seeing out of his closed eyes. I don't think Brooks was trying to get his man hurt, no one could tell the extent of the damage to Diaz until he started to stumble.

No one is to blame for this, this kind of stuff happens. As we continue in this brutal sport, we learn more about how to prevent them. But neither the ref or the trainer is to blame for what happened, no one is really.

Rahman is in a different boart. It was third round, he was clear. The cut was no where near deep. Im talking about fighters like Freitas who after 10 rounds of getting pounded on a Chico. Not a fighter who got a minor cut in the 3rd round looking for a way out. He was beat up like Oscar, Popo, Gatti. Even Alphonso Gomez took a beating. But the way that Rock wnet out is not in the same league.

I couldn't believe that after Diaz had just slumped over in his chair and they had him laid out unconscious on the mat...He got up for a bit and the ref was still asking him if it was ok to go... That's Texas for ya.

Do you not think that what Brooks did was bending the rules that were put in place to help fighters out. If he couldnt see out of his eye, there is no reason for the man to go blind because his trainer puts the pressure on him, and tries to cut corners. If your man is not well enough to see how many fingers had been put up, do you not think that is reason enough to stop a fight? I mean it is two fingers. If he cant tell 2 fingers how the hell is he going to see thunderous right hands and snapping jabs come at him? As a trainer you are supposed to look out for your fighter. Not send him out there to take more of a beating than he already has, and hang him out there to dry.

Fair enough. I can agree with that.

If you suspend Brooks, you have to suspend every other trainer who had done it, which is a lot.

Don't place it all on Brooks because I know Diaz and he wouldn't care, he'd want to fight on. Is it wise under those circumstances? No, personally I don't think it is. But then you have cases like Jorge Castro, bleeding out of his eyes and unable to see John David Jackson. Do you suspend him? How about every Arturo Gatti trainer, do you suspend him as well?

I see a lot of people complaining that Juan Diaz was hindered by his cuts, but no one is calling for Ronnie Shields' suspensions.

The only difference here is that someone got hurt.

Me personally, from the outside looking in, I had the TV viewer's perspective so I can't make the same judgments someone at ringside. I would have stopped the fight once Diaz stopped coming forward as much because he can't find but one way.

In hindsight we can make all the judgments we want, but if we're not in the moment its just talk.
