Maybe he did think he would be stopped.

But just as he couldn't be 100% sure that he was behind, he also couldn't be 100% sure that he would be stopped.

It's just kind of strange that such a dominant champion would quit, when he wasn't out on his feet, bleeding to the point of blindness or anything like that, in a close fight.

Coralles always talked about going out on his shield... that's something a champion should do IMO.

I'm not judging Tszyu, but I just can't imagine what was going through his mind.

All I can think is that he was tired of the sport, and saw his opportunity to leave the sport gracefully.

        I agree though.

It actually really pisses me off how many people hopped off the "style to beat Mayweather" bandwagon to the "overrated piece of ****" bandwagon.

        Lame.

Hatton is a good fighter, and people were really quick to make excuses for his poor performance against Collazo, but now people seem to think that he is a C- fighter who couldn't beat the 400th ranked WW.

he was winded when he got stopped by phillips. he was young but he did not train for that fight.

maybe he was feeling the same way he did right before he got beat by phillips?

he knew he had nothing left in the tank?

            Everybody?

You really do live in a dreamworld dont you? Im a huge fan of Ricky and even I gave him the smallest of chances.

I was thinking more of the fact he retired as the Welterweight Champ having fought 1, maybe 2 genuine welterweights whilst ducking most of the division when it was at its peak

Oscar had nothing left in the tank when he ran from Trinidad the last few rounds.

People look on Oscar's performance vs. Trinidad more favorably than they look on Tszyu's performance vs. Hatton.

It is just very uncharacteristic of a prizefighter (who seem to have an affinity of being wildly arrogant/egotistical) to quit when they might be giving up an already secured win.

Before the fight everyone was prasiing Hatton the relentless fightwr how has th style to beat Mayweather and the weight shouldn’t be a problem. I wonder how everyone felt when Mayweather stumbled in the first round there eyes must have lightned up. After Mayweathers win, excuses he is a light WW,the ref cost him the fight and Mayweather cheated with his elbows and stuff. Hatton not that good of a fighter wasn’t he in the Top P4P when the fight was happening. I hate how people discredit boxers acheivement because they hate the boxer so much.

                    Agreed again.

The worst part of all of it is that people would seriously flip **** if Floyd took a rematch with Hatton at 140.

Hatton can't fight at 147, he's a 140 fighter only, BUT... Floyd is not allowed to waste a fight on him at 140.

Does that make any sense, at all?

That made me smile mate!!, I totally agree, can you imagine the boxing community being meek and mild about Floyd taking on Hatton @ 140? LOL
IMO the Tszyu fight was the pinnacle of Hattons career, even though he did go on to become a 2 weight world champ like he always wanted he will never reach those heights again. Its funny how losses affect different fighters in different ways, personally i think Hatton was robbed of his deluded robe of invincibility when he lost to Floyd, and that is what has made his subsequent performances average and just enough to get the job done.
