james toney will be an ATG when he retires...

he had it all over rahman when rahman bitched out......toney was doing what he does best, slipping, bobbing and countering with hard shots, he even had hasim wobbled a few times....the guy started at middleweight, hes now fat and old at 220+ pounds and he can hang with and out fight natural heavyweights....what a boxer

Toney is without an all time great. He is a fantastic fighter who has had a phenomenal career. He may have gone on a little too long now but it cannot take away from his past achievements.

If Toney fights and beats someone like Arreola I would have to have Toney in the top 20 ATG...

That's a bit too high IMO.

Toney has great skills, but he failed to use them correctly. There are many fighters with better records than him, although I accept that others rate the achievement of winning in higher weight divisions more than I do.

Top 20 may be a little too high, but it wouldn't be too far off the mark either. His skills, longevity, resume and accomplishments truly are spectacular.

top 20 ATG is a bit far.....im not sure as to where exactly he would place on a list.....

failed to use his skills correctly he won titles in 3 weight classes and beat guys like nunn, mccallum, jirov, holyfield, rahman etc....

who has a better record on paper than toney??? 80 fights?? 71 wins 6 losses a few draws i think and the no contest agaisnt ruiz.....

                who else fights that often?

he fought 26 times in his first 2 years, he would make guys like robinson etc proud

but i suppose you are one of the people that think calzaghe is a better fighter than james toney right? oh and the reason winning titles in multiple weight classes is such a huge achievment is that it often means going up against naturally bigger guys and that means you need great skills....

toney belongs in the commentators booth/table on HBO or on showtime...if he can keep his mouth clean and complete sentences...people will watch fights just to see his colorful commentary..he can make mundane fights fun...

o yeah he is no question an atg...last of a dying breed for real

Yeah no question. Great skills, great fighter, great resume, great accomplishments, great record = ATG.

IMO, and admitedly it is only my opinion, to place Joe above Toney as far as ATG status is concerned would be ludicrous.
