Gatti was going to fight Cotto if he beat Baldomir. Lol that would have answered your question really quick. In about 3 rounds time.

OMG, WTF??? Cotto has fighted other boxers who had a tittle before or won a tittle after fighting Cotto. That's why he is highly regarded as a true undefeated champ. By not been a current titilist, you can't discredit wins agaisnt Mosley, Judah, Torres, Maggs, Quintana... Currently there is no other boxer with that kind of resume in the WW Div. PBF comes close to it, but wins agaisnt Baldomir, Hatton and ODLH are to make fun of.

According to livedog, Floyd's win over Baldomir was more meaningfull than Cotto's wins over Quintana, Mosley, and Malignaggi because Baldomir was a title holder at the time and they werent.

Almost exclusively because he was the linear champion at the time.

And? He went from Lineal champ to sparring partner in a yrs time. Like i said, too much emphasis is places on titles and titleholders.

Yea, but at the same time, people were ripping floyd for ducking baldomir and fighting zab, as well as not being a real champ at 140 and just a beltholder, basically that baldomir fight gave him what he needed to shut brian kenny up for about 2 days. The only other real fight for floyd at welterweight was Margarito, Mosley decided to get a toothache as well. You forget the welterweight division wasnt what it is today back in 2006.

I dont recall many people salivating over a Floyd/Baldomir bout. Baldomir was seen as nothing but a fortunate journeyman who got lucky. Floyd blatently ducked Margarito, and both Floyd and Shane are guilty of conviently avoiding one another. If i recall correctly, Floyd decided to call Shane out AFTER Shane had already stated that he would be taking the rest of the year off (following his rematch with Vargas). When Shane returned and called out Floyd, Floyd said "i dont fight sparring partners"

Floyd called out shane long before his fight with Vargas, why the **** do you think merchant asked about mayweather in the ****ing first place?

Basically after Baldomir knocked out Gatti Steward said basically that floyd wouldnt impress him until he fought a genuine welterweight that could test him DURING the broadcast, when the baldomir/mayweather fight was announced mayweather was applauded for basically taking on the "man" at welter as well as the biggest fighter he had faced up to that point. It wasnt until mayweather dominated him in boring fashion that all of the sudden, baldomir was some unworthy bum.
