Looks like Floyd was right, Cottos fanbase isn't big enough for a mega fight...yet

It even says so in this article.

I wonder how much of it is the heat and how much of it is the fighters in the ring.

Whilst it is the fanbase that makes the money it should also be taken into consideration what Cotto has achieved, if he comes thru July 26th with a victory then he is deserving of a shot a Floyd should he come out of retirement.
Floyd wont take this fight unless its definately his last though as the risks are much higher than against most other fighters calling Floyd out of retirement.

Lets see how the numbers look after everything is tallied up. Lets not forget that Floyd had a half empty arena when he fought Baldomir for a world title fight. On top of that, people walked out mid fight.

Floyd vs. Baldomir The Real Story...!!!

Floyd vs. No Name Fighter with no U.S exposure (T.V):

              Floyd vs.Carlos Baldomir 325,000 buys = 16.3 Million (2nd P.P.V)

"We're very pleased with Mayweather's PPV performance, especially given that Baldomir had little previous exposure in the US," HBO PPV's Mark Taffet said.

Baldomir's only previous U.S. exposure came in his January upset of Judah to win the welterweight title and his July knockout of Gatti in his first defense.

"These numbers are very reflective of the numbers generated by Oscar when he did not have the well-known name challenger in the other corner, which obviously speaks volumes of Floyd's star power," Goossen said.

              THE REAL POINT...

Floyd fighting a Nobody is almost the equivalent to any fight the 3rd Biggest Name in Boxing (Pacquaio) is fighting in and that is with Big Names

Floyd fighting a Nobody is almost the equivalent to

Shane Mosley vs. Fernando Vargas II 350,000 buys
Shane Mosley vs. Miguel Cotto 340,000 buys
Bernard Hopkins vs. Antonio Tarver 330,000 Buys
Bernard Hopkins vs. Winky Wright 305,000 Buys
Roy Jones Jr vs. Tarver I 302,000 PPV
Miguel Cotto vs. zab Judah 225,000 PPV
Bernard Hopkins vs. Jermain Taylor I 370,000 Buys

So Floyd did fight a nobody his name was Carlos Baldomir and that fight was almost the equivalent to any of the big fights in the past 10 years...and better than 1/5 of the most Highest Selling P.P.V EVER not including a HeavyWeight or Oscar..

Like I said Before Floyd fighting a A well-known name challenger Is better than anybody not name Oscar,Tyson, or Holyfield

              Floyd Mayweather = 216.65 Million on 4.65 million Buys ( 5 Events)

Listen, if Floyd is this huge draw that he thinks he is, why should he worry about what kind of numbers his opponent does/can do? Reason is, deep down inside he knows that he's not really this big draw that he wants people to believe he is. He's gonna have no choice BUT to fight Cotto if he ever chooses to unretire. Oscar wont be around next year. Floyd/Hatton II is something that isnt warranted. Who else is there?

Who asked for stats? I merely stated that for the Floyd/Baldomir bout, the stadium was half empty, and people were walking out mid fight. Is that not true?
