The biggest problem is too much attention given to small men. If the weight classes were raised 20lbs each (we have 19th Century weight standards still), people would be more willing to watch.
I hear so many people laugh off boxing as a sport for undersized people.Comment

There are so many issues which are affecting the popularity of the sport today, not least the amount of top fights which go to PPV, can you imagine even 20 years ago in the UK having to pay £15 or more to watch Benn V Eubank etc, it was just so rare if not unheard of.
Also there are so many alphabet titles now that for the casual boxing fan its very hard to keep track of who is who in the division and which fights are actually worth watching.
Then you have the corruption and scandalous refereeing and judgeing decisions which do not help the matter at all.
Another thing the alphabet title farce leads to is the lack of unification fights which happen nowadays, before the invention of the lesser and interim titles there was usually the option of a unification fight for 3 maybe 4 titles and the winner would be undisputed champ of the weight class, this is all but impossible today.
Ther you go, thats my opinion on why the sport is less respected today.Comment

Yeah but those people who laugh it off can just watch 160 and up if they really want to.Comment

because its free to watch almost every sport in the world except for boxing. you can watch every major game in every sport virtually for free but in boxing you have to dish out $50(for big boxing matches) or go to your local bar on a saturday when ppl usually like to do other things. Boxing fans spend more money than any other fans of any other sport. This is the reason boxing can never be mainstream and will not get the amount of coverage other sports get.Man ive been thinking about this for some time and i jus wanted to see wut u guys think.
I watch espn and sportcenter a lot and they hype of a lot of things like NBA finals...world series....even hockey and soccer...but boxing gets only a small portion of tv time. The most hype i eva seen for a fight was may-dlh wen they had mini interviews on espnews...other than that they dont hype of names the way they should and i garantee that if they did ppv number would definetly increase. And ppl would finally say the sport is not deadComment

Boxing is not dead man, this is just a myth that was put up by some MMA guys to boost their ratings.
I honestly don't care about PPV numbers, if I did I would buy the match and I don't. I will go see it at a friend's house or a pub. You don't need to be concern about these things. Those who need to be concern are the promoters and the commissions and it's clear they don't. All we need to do is enjoy the fights and be happy that the sport is the way it is.
If there is only one thing that I really CARE ABOUT is the WBA,WBC,WBO,IBF,IWO,etc...There should only be one championComment
