IMO whatever Mayweather does he would be critise for it
    .
this is true, mostly because the judah fight had to be renegotiated because it was already signed, mayweather was going to fight spinks at 154 after judah, but people got pissed off so he called it off. he then went after the linear championship, the same championship that brian kenny ripped mayweather for not having and ripped him for not having a real belt at 147, he gets it, and then he lined up the DLH fight. Now all these moves are being ripped, but at the time, it was viewed that mayweather was not a real champ at 147, even then, margarito only had the WBO belt, if he fought margarito and won a wide UD12 and baldomir say, defended his belt and won, he would have been viewed as ducking baldomir.

its crazy though, i can remember being on here and how people were about to lose it that mayweather was fighting DLH, its was easily the most anticpated fight on here and in the general public, oscar lost, and then he became old, past his prime and now people say mayweather "handpicked" the fight.

many people in this thread and on this board are unique revisionists.

      What would you do??

      Option 3

Fight Margarito and "beat his ass" for 8 mil then three or four months down the line fight Baldomir for another 8 mil and the linear title.

by then baldomir might not have had that title though. cotto probably would have got to him by then.

So then he fights Cotto and "beats his ass easy" too. Or could Mayweather not beat Cotto?

In any case this is false. Margarito was calling out Mayweather since the Judah fight. 7 months passed by in that time and for most of that 7 months there was no-one calling out Mayweather apart from Margarito. Baldomir was not even an option for most of the seven months, in short Mayweather didn't know that he would get a fight with Baldomir. When he did get the fight with Baldomir it was a no-brainer, and given a straight choice between the two the easier fight for the greater reward is the obvious one. But that choice wasn't even on the table for Mayweather while Margarito was calling him out.

We would have seen mayweather fighting cotto for the linear championship because hed have every reason to fight him. Essentially, if mayweather would have taken the margarito fight instead of waiting for baldomir, we would have likely seen cotto move up and immediately take on baldomir for the linear championship, and in late 2006 it would have been mayweather/cotto en route to de la hoya.

Talk about anything boxing related here. Where the boxing discussion is always Non Stop!

I have heard from countless Floyd fans that the reason Floyd fought Baldomir instead of Margarito, was because Baldomir was the Undisputed/Linear WW Champ, and had more to offer than Margarito did. Me personally, i doubt that was the "real" reason. This is why:

When Arum made Floyd the $8mil offer to fight Margarito, Floyd had yet to secure an opponent for his Nov 4th ppv date. He then went desperately scrambling for an opponent, when all along, Margarito was the only one willing to step in the ring with him. Not to mention, Margo was the #1 ranked WW at the time. Floyd went looking for fights with Shane (even though Shane had already stated that he will be taking the rest of the year off). He tried to get Oscar in the ring, but Oscar was in retirement mode at the time. He even went as low as to try to secure a fight with Cory Spinks! (Thank god that idea got shut down). Floyd ONLY choices were Margarito, or Baldomir (given Baldo beat Gatti). Floyd crossed his fingers, and prayed to the gods in hope of a Baldomir win. So my question is, if all along he had the option of fighting the #1 ranked WW for a career high payday, why wait, gamble, and risk losing out, in hopes that Baldomir beats Gatti? What would Floyd have done if Gatti won? There is no way on earth Gatti's people or HBO would've let that happen again, so what would Floyd have done? An even better question is, If Floyd's intentions were to go after Baldomir's titles/belts, why was Baldomir Floyd's last choice??? If you're after the WW champ, why do u go looking for fights with guys like Spinks and Shane? Floydboyz will argue that Floyd chose Baldomir over Margarito because Baldomir had the titles. Why wasnt Baldomir Floyd's first option then?????

There was nothing wrong in the P4P boxer at the time waiting for options, Baldomir was an option when he beat Zab judah but Mayweather still went ahead with the Judah fight.

Brian Kinney interviewed him and critise him on why he didnt cancel the Judah fight and fight the linear champion in Baldomir, He fought Judah anyway and Baldomir fought and beat gatti to solidify his position at the top of 147......What was Margarito/Arum doing while Gatti from NO where got into fight Baldomir?

Margarito could have offer Baldomir crazy money beat him then he would have been the 147 undisputed champion but did arum even thought about that? NO.....Dont blame Mayweather for Arum's mistakes.

Baldomir was an option after he beat Judah, but Floyd turned it down because he claimed Baldo wanted too much money. Floyd's exact words were "how does a guy who never even made a million dollars ask for (whatever the amount baldo was asking).
