To kick things off, I'd like to apologize to Ronnie. I had thought the author of this article had been Nonito Donaire's errand boy or something along that line, whose job was to criticize Japanese titlists for ducking a Filipino champion. But I tell you what. He's not! Ronnie seems specialized in writing about Filipino fighters. I'd never expected somebody out there to write about Kameda putting up a fight versus a Filipino boxer. My hat off to Ronnie again.
I mean, damn! This is the worst matchup ever. What kind of an ex-world champion and cuurent world-ranked fighter is he if he wants to fight a man who is given just a couple of days for preparation till the bout? Can Marino Montiel even make weight? Even if he does, I doubt he is in shape good enough to take on a world-ranked fighter, though I suspect that Kameda doesn't deserve the rank he is at. Seriously though, I'm now happy and sorta relieved to hear that Kameda is gonna take on a Mexican. A battle between a Filipino and a Mexican is all good. It is now a pseudo-war that people tend to get hyped up about. But a fight between a Japanese and a Filipino on Mexican soil would be a joke. Couldn't be less funnier. Did he assume that Mexican crowd would be rooting for him since he would fight a countryman of Mexico's nemesis Pacquiao? Or was it just that Kameda avoided Mexicans for fear of their brutality? I for one hope that Montiel takes a steadfast stand against his Japanese opposition and makes the fight a war should Kameda turns the bout into a foul-filled contest. Be careful. Kameda is good in hitting low. My second hope - and concern, perhaps - is that just like Kameda has done time and time again in Japan, he doesn't do anything that can constitute a blasphemy to the sport of boxing in Mexco which is so rich in boxing tradition. I'm not sure if this bout will be broadcast, but those who are avid enough to tape the bout and upload it onto youtube will be greatly appreciated in Japan I promise.
Can't wait for the details to come out once the bout really takes place. Keep up the good work Ronnie. You are now counted on tremendously.Comment

Marino Montiel's ring campaign is just remarkable. According to boxrec, he was 23-1 until July of 2002. Most of those winning records came against fighters with no or few wins. Then he suffered 2 losses in a row, scored a victory over a 0-2-0 guy followed by another set of 1 win and 2 defeats in a row. After that, 5 wins came agaist typical underdogs. A defeat and a draw ensued and then he went complete downhill by tasting 4 straight defeats. Is Kameda really serious? There is no point in the ex-world titlist and current WBA mandatory flyweight challenger putting up a fight against a guy way past his prime. Heck, Marino Montiel had no prime! Kameda ought to get back to Japan where he was born. He should already stop training and sparring with Cristian Mijares or Fernando Montiel. If he really wants to be a Japanese equivalent of Manny Pacquiao, then he should at least fight a recognized Mexican flyweight. Dammit, he has long been in Mexico. He was with Mijares when he fought Munoz for the unification. Just before the Mijares - Munoz bout, there was a WBC flyweight eliminator bout which Kameda should have taken part in. He avoided fighting there and now he takes on a man who's fallen into a losing streak. How pathetic...Comment

this is a mismatch? apol suico's record is 10-2 6 KO's. how is this a mismatch? isn't it apol suico's choice if he wants to fight or not? too many people crying about mismatches is ludicrous!
wasn't there some big stink about alleged mismatches in the philippines last year because filipino fighters with bad records were getting ko'd in places like thailand, japan and australia? government should not get involved. this is an individual sport and if boxers agree to take fights it's their own business.Comment

Actually, you'll have to tell that to his family. He died last year after being brought over to Thailand to fight two consecutive former world champions, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam and Chatchai Sasakul, in mismatches despite his unimpressive record.
Sisnorio had no license to fight, but that didn't stop Thailand's commission from sanctioning him to fight their best.Comment

lito sisnorio might have been a special case. his managers and promoters should have gotten prosecuted for this injustice. but that's probably a very rare case.
fighters with inferior skills and records fight top fighters all the time. it happens alot in mexico but i've never heard the government wanting to ban boxing like they suggested in the philippines.
in the case of apol suice fighting this japanese guy, even though the japanese probably has more talent i wouldn't go as far as to call it a total mismatch.
give this suico guy a chance. who knows, he might surprise everyone and win!Comment
