Why do people think sluggers with no defense are "giving the fans what they like?"

Montiel has really been coming on as of late. And if Mijares came up here in the united states he probably would have a gold medal to go along with his skills.

Let me ask you an honest question and be HONEST. Which fight did you find much more exciting?

      1 - DeLaHoya vs Mayweather

      or

2 - Gatti vs Ward (pick one)

DLH vs Mayweather was one of the best displays of boxing I have seen in recent memory. Both are incredibly skilled fighters who 99% of other fighters in the sport can't match BUT....

Gatti vs Ward was like Rocky ****ing 7!! I mean it was what heart is all about. Even though, neither Ward not Gatti can hold a candle to DLH or Mayweather in skill, it was a much better fight to watch.

Fighters fight to their strengths and some fighters styles are just more exciting to watch....plain and simple.

What does this have to do with the topic? This is not the same old "boxers aren't runners" and "boxers can be exciting too" ****. I simply said that fighters only do what they can in the ring, and they do not (and SHOULD not) care about what the fans want, they only try to win the fin the best way that they know how.

Tell that to guys like Cory Spinks who cant even get a televised fight as of lately. Why is it that a fighter like Mayorga can lose 3/6 fights, and still headline a ppv? Its because he has an entertaining style that the fans are still willing to pay to see. Like i said in my previous post.....Wlad did what he had to do against Ibragimov. Do you think the fans were particularly happy with that performance? Do u think they found that to be "exciting"

Of course, but my point is (and I'm getting tired of repeating this) that Mayorga does not do this to please the fans, but only because that is the style which he KNOWS how to fight. He couldn't box like Spinks if he tried, and Spinks couldn't brawl like Mayorga if he tried.

THIS TOPIC HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT IS EXCITING AND WHAT PEOPLE WOULD RATHER WATCH.

IT IS ABOUT HOW BOXERS FIGHT ONLY TO THEIR ABILITY, AND NOT TO WHAT THE FANS WOULD WANT TO SEE FROM THEM.

I understand u, but u also have to understand that not everybody finds defensive fighters such as Winky, Bhop, Floyd, Spinks, etc... entertaining. 9/10 times, the casual fan would prefer to see a toe to toe brawl, rather than a technical/defensive display of boxing skills.

Great Post and I would have to attribute that to the fact that there are boxing fans and there are people that just like seeing people get KTFO. There wouldn't be a market for UFC if this wasn't true. Many Boxing fans turned UFC fans.
Although right now we see UFC transforming into something more tactical and less brutal with the introduction of these new faces like the Silva's.

It's not because they are so preoccupied with the FANS. And if they were, that would be ****** as ****, because they risk losing and harming their careers and themselves just to make people have fun. People who do not care about them as persons and only want to see the fights.

A real intelligent fighter, a real intelligent PERSON actually, when in competition, does what he can to WIN. If someone competing in ANYTHING has goals other than to WIN, then he/she is a TERRIBLE competitor. So if these so-called warriors who only want to please the fans compromise their skills so that the fans will be entertained, they are unaware of the main objective of their sport, and I can't understand why they should be respected at all.
no one is saying they like to get hit but the point is there style causes them to get hit and make the fight exciting. anyway the main part of the sport is to make money and even the best boxers who run like cowards dont make money. loud mouth action fighters like mayorga who will never be close to p4p status is making way more than good all the good boxers out there today.

Margarine has never made money nor has he attracted any fans up until now. The ****er couldn't even get many mexicans to show up to his fight.

There goes your ****** ****ing argument. As usual.

The bold is complete bull**** and if you look at the history of boxing more pure boxers have made way more money than less skilled brawlers.
