Even though it is the right thing to do here, Sulaiman ruling in favor of the Mexican fighter was a mere formality.
WBC Will Not Recognize Humberto Soto's DQ Loss

Should have been done, now the only other thing they need to do is strip Cortez of his officiating license. How can anyone defend the DQ, Lorenzo was all over the place going down to near knees for the last minute of the fight and dipping and ducking his head forward and ****, the whole thing was mass confusion, Cortez himself didn't know what was going on. Soto did nothing that he isn't trained to do and to say he intentionally hit someone in the back of the head is bull****, Soto had no reason to do that he was dominating the fight and throwing blows at an incompetent boxer while an even more incompetent ref WATCHED it all go down!!!!Comment

I saw the fight, saw the round-on replay-on slo mo... C'mon. It was a blow after Lorenzo was down, but that was at the end of an accumulation that put him down. Doesn't that count for something? I hear what you are saying about Cortez being old, but the way he protected Lorenzo was carrying the fight in that round. It could have been stopped moments after the first. I agree on the NC call, especially since it happened in the 4th, but in reality the fight was over. I think Cortez may now officially bein someone's pocket. Who promotes Lorenzo anyway?Comment

If Lorenzo was down and Soto ACCIDENTALLY hit him while he was down, then the rule states that after an accidental foul, the fighter gets 5 minutes to recover and continue. If unable to continue, then he loses by DQ. In order for Cortez to DQ Soto, he would've had to rule that the foul was INTENTIONAL.Comment

Exactly and there was definitely no intent there, Lorenzo was everywhere with his head, he was under Soto's beltline and moving his head in every direction, only other thing Soto could do was stand there and miss his opportunity for the knockout!!!!If Lorenzo was down and Soto ACCIDENTALLY hit him while he was down, then the rule states that after an accidental foul, the fighter gets 5 minutes to recover and continue. Cortez shouldn't be fired. He should be investigated. His bank accounts should be seized and audited and he should face questions from the commission and the feds.Comment
