He can be a little bit too smart for his own good though. Against Taylor and Calzaghe his tactical approach cost him big time. Whether or not he could have boxed more active fights though I'm not sure about, so it might be that he did all he could.

I think it really cost him against Taylor. Calzaghe his gameplan was the way to go. Rough him up, blast him with rights, etc. I still think Bernard was the best oppnenot out there for Calzaghe.

I do too. He was the most credible opponent by a mile. You are right also that he did choose the correct gameplan, but the bottom line is he should have thrown in more activity. Whether he could or not, is another question.

Yeah I agree. I think he just was too old for calzaghe, I mean he was clearly out of breath and fatigue in the late rounds and out of all the fights I have seen Hopkins in (about 40 something of them) this was the only time I can recall him ever being gassed. And looking backed he did look a bit fatigued against Winky too

I don't think he gassed against Winky. I thought he finished really well actually.

                  Who the hell voted no?

If you are fighting competitively at 40 at that level you HAVE TO be smart.

That's one of the things that makes him so smart...he doesn't get into the ring with guys his own size or bigger very often, and when he does, he plays it safe. He saves the flashy **** for when he's fighting smaller guys he can handle easier.
