Hernandez's physique suggests that he wasn't exactly staying in shape during his layoffs. I like what Vanes is doing and he's gaining a lot of experience trying to get some rounds against a guy who isn't going to be dangerous later in the fight. It's a step up in that respect because of Hernandez's durability. Martirosyan is ready for a step up to other ten-round fighters.

Not to knock on Vanes but I've watched him fight plenty of times live and I always thought he is not that good of a fighter. Alot of those leaks are showing up against a shot out of shape fighter, pretty pathedic how bad Hernandez is looking tonight and they are calling him a test.

Chavez jr vs Vanes - The fight between the protected bum slayers.

I agree. Hernandez doesn't look like the same guy I remember. But to his credit he has a hell of a chin, he's taken everything vanes has thrown at him and vanes has landed some big shots.

I've seen Hernandez live about 5 times and this is the absolute worst I've seen him.

I don' think it's Vanes fault. On paper and before, Hernandez was a good test.
Now, he just seems intent to hang around.

Hernandez has always been kinda doughy, perhaps not as bad as tonight, but he's never boasted a model's physique

I agree with you that this was a proper test for Vanes, and that's he clearly ready for the next level. Guys on here are hard on him for whatever reason, but I see steady improvement with each fight. Hernandez is coming off of a minor upset, so tonight was a calculated "risk" by Top Rank. I'm sure we'll see bigger and better in his next fight and beyond and I look forward to continue covering his career.

standing in front of him for the most part. He looked out of shape and his technique was very sloppy, lots of very big looping punches that didn't have much power. Vanes pretty much landed at will but to Hernadez credit he took all the punches well, except an uppercut in the first round that dropped him.

Good win for vanes but you had to wish for KO in a situation like that. Regardless, time to step up.
