This is bull****. You yourselves call your country America. You describe yourselves as Americans, you have concepts like Americanism and Anti-Americanism. You have the American Dream.

Everyone in the world knows what is meant when someone says I'm going to America for my holidays, it means the United States. If you say I'm going to Europe for my holidays you might be visiting Bulgaria, Slovenia, Italy, the UK, France, Portugal.....all separate countries.

I think your generalization is way off.

I don't know of anybody that says they visited "Europe" if they visited France they say France. Italy - Italy.

Sometimes people visit more than one country in Europe in which case "Europe" might be used.

Essentially a European saying they visited America is the same as an American saying they visited Europe.
