geez , first i get heat from that ****** joartcc when i said manny doesn't have great boxing skills and now you call me a youngster for what i said about julio!

i'm 29. i'm not that young and i've been watching fights since i was a little kid with my dad. my dad was a big ali/leonard/elorde/louis/conn fan he use to take me to watch boxing in inglewood and would watch all his old boxing videos with me.

no need to insult me just because i disagree with you. or at least do it with some humor like i try to do.

i'll tell you what i told joartcc. my statement about manny , like with julio , is in comparison with guys on their level , i.e. the greats.

obviously julio sr. is very skilled compared to most (he did win 10,000 fights for god's sake) but his boxing skills were not as polished as some of the great boxing technicians that i compare him to. you don't compare a chavez to just anybody. he's a legend and you compare guys like that to the armstrongs , robinsons , leonards , esteban's , duran's , etc. of the world.
Chavez skills were elite great for his style. He wasn't a boxer in style but Chavez skill set was on par or better then others at least from what i've seen.

How can you then now little of Marquez early career? Im 29 also but maybe because im Chicano i follow more closely my Mexican Heritage boxers though i used to watch every single boxing match i could find on tv when i started studiing boxing.

    Really? Name some..........!!!!!!?

I find it funny you think there is no skill involved with the way Pacquiao knocked down Marquez in the 2nd fight but seeing Marquez use the exact same combination which failed to produce a kd just 1 round earlier and it was technique at its finest.
wtf you talking about willis, when did i mention Marquez technique in the Pacquiao fight, at least i don't think i did so in that post.

I hear you were a former fighter and as 1 you should know damn well that there are plenty of openings you see but dont pull the trigger on because you expose yourself to combos and counters.
And...........? As i ment, instinct/natural reaction isn't always great skills when you do so without maximum effect. What i mean is If Pacquiao did set that punch up, he would have put that shoulder into the punch, don't you aggree? Insteed he just stuck his hand out and allowed Marquez to run into his left hand.

the only crappy fights i have are when i buy career dvds. even the greats lay eggs once in a while.

I did name some. Winky, Casamayor, Frazier, Holyfield to name a few.

You mentioned the Marquez combo from the 2nd rd in a previous thread

Manny has a background in kickboxing martial arts. Thats why even his famous 1-2 he throws like an archer pulling back on a bow. Just because its different dont make it less effective. Marquez is just a tough dude. If it was any1 else they would have been asleep in that 3rd round.

okay you need to stop bringing up my julio comment! people gonna think i hate julio or something. i love the guy and have him only second to salvador as the greatest mexican fighter. my comment was because of julio's fight that was stuck in my head against taylor. imo taylor totally schooled him. when i was watching the fight i was like "damn! taylor is schooling chavez then as the rounds pass by and you see meldricks face and coughing up blood and bleeding and i was like how the hell is he so beat up?!?!" that's why i made that comment about julio wearing guys down.

as far as marquez i don't really follow him so i admit i don't know everythin about him. i've followed boxing since i was a kid but i have a gap. from 5-15 i watched a lot of fights with my dad especially the old one's 'cause you know how the old timers think their fighters are the best. my dad thinks elorde would whoop manny! but you know how it goes......from 16-21 saturday nights were "getting puss" nights not B.A.D. or ShoBox nights. call me a fake boxing fan but i wouldn't trade some of the great nana i had during those times for some of the fights i might have missed watching live. there's always dvd's! :-)

Nobody in feather and around would be making anything like they do now if it wasnt for Hamed.. Shame he lost his balls for a rematch i think he should have been in the mix over the past few years with rematches etc.

hamed is very underrated. he cleaned up the division and would've have had all the belts if it wasn't for politics against his wbo belt.

hamed retired at the right time though. if you noticed in his previous fights before marco he was already showing signs of slowing down. the hamed that lost to marco was a bit past-prime imo.

some guys are like that. he just burnt out too fast. probably all the partying and such.

Sellout seen in Manny’s title quest
                    By Joaquin Henson
                    Wednesday, June 25, 2008

The expectation is tickets will be sold out in Manny Pacquiao’s quest for the WBC lightweight title held by David Diaz at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas this Saturday (Sunday morning, Manila).

“At the moment, we’re up to 70 percent sold,” said a Pacquiao insider. “We expect a sellout or at least a near sellout. But the big money is in the pay-per-view sales. At first, we estimated hits of 275,000 to 300,000. Now, we’re looking at 400,000 and we hope to surpass the sales for Manny’s fight against (Juan Manuel) Marquez.”

Tickets are priced from $100 to $600 at face value. Internet sellers are charging $1,950 for a ticket in the first 10 rows. A pay-per-view subscription is $49.95. To prevent black marketers from hoarding, box office outlets are limiting individual purchases to eight tickets.

First-day sales reached 7,000 tickets. The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino arena has a capacity of 12,000.

Pan Asian Boxing Association lightweight champion Dennis Laurente of the Johnny Elorde stable is the only Filipino seeing action in the undercard. Laurente, 30, takes on Pacquiao sparmate Steve Quiñonez in an eight-rounder. He arrived from Manila last week and tapered off at the Wild Card Gym with trainers Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri.

A Fil-Am prospect, Hawaii-born Carlos Tangaro, is also appearing in the show. He was brought in to spar with Pacquiao from a referral by Oklahoma matchmaker Sean Gibbons. Tangaro, a left-handed superlightweight based in Palm Springs, turned pro last February and has a 2-0 record. He was recently signed to a contract by Pacquiao’s promotional company.

Another Filipino, Aaron Melgarejo, was pulled out of the card and will take on Manny Perez of Vallejo, California, in an eight-rounder at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas tomorrow night (Friday morning, Manila).

Melgarejo, the Philippine superfeatherweight champion, has an 11-5-1 record, with three KOs. His most impressive win was a decision over Gerry Peñalosa protégé Mike Farenas. Melgarejo’s grandfather Oscar Reyes was a former Oriental featherweight champion now living in Los Angeles and will be at ringside for the bout. Melgarejo, 24, is the nephew of former Oriental superfeatherweight titleholder Tiger Ari.

Ticket sales got a boost when Diaz was introduced in promotional tours to Filipino communities in Phoenix, Houston, San Francisco and San Diego.

Franklin McNeil of the New Jersey Star-Ledger said there are three keys to the fight:

“Activity – Pacquiao is a very busy fighter and most of his punches are power shots, including the jab. Diaz must match his aggression and land counterpunches.

“Weight – Diaz is naturally bigger and should lean on Pacquiao as much as possible in an effort to wear him down.

“Jab – Both men are southpaws. This should help Pacquiao who throws right jabs to set up his powerful left.”

McNeil figured Diaz’ plan is not to match Pacquiao’s power but to be more aggressive.

“Pacquiao stops once in a while when going forward,” said Diaz. “When he is resting, that’s when I can attack. We’re going to match up pretty much the same. He walks around pretty heavy so he feels comfortable…what’s going to matter most is the conditioning. Whomever is in top condition is going to end up winning this fight.”

both in top condition, both are willing to trade punches and both got heart. this is going to be a brawl. i cant wait for this fight to happen. it's a war. it would be like PAC-EM fight but with more aggression and more power.
