Joe Calzaghe Dumps Frank Warren, Targets Roy Jones Jr.

Oh outside of a BS stoppage like the Manfredo one, Calzaghe has ZERO chance of stopping Jones. My point was that power probably won't be an issue in this fight, this one's going the distance, period. It comes down to workrate, conditioning, if Calzaghe can get past Roy's new found guard and if Roy can stay busy enough to outpoint Joe.
I don't care who wins, I like them both, actually probably Calzaghe less so after the Hopkins fight.
once Joe tastes a few 90mph fastballs... hes gonna me a little more hesitant
roy may be 39... but hes no jeff lacy or peter manfredo... i think hes better than bernard tooComment

Even though Roy jones has got a bit of his confidence back after the Tarver/Johnson fiasco, I wouldnt give him the edge over Joe Calzaghe. Joe has the same handspeed if not better than Roy at this stage and he has the high/better workrate.
I find it hard to see either fighter KO'in each other but i have Joe by decision.Comment

Joe Calzaghe retirement announcement possible ploy to boost ratings for next fight.
Joe Calzaghe's retirement announcement could be a possible ploy to boost ratings for his next fight. Here is the scenario: In his next fight Win or Lose there will likely be a rematch clause. If you recall prior to Calzaghe's last fight with Bernard Hopkins, Hopkins stated that Joe Calzaghe was only fighting in the US because he was under contract with HBO to have 3 fights in the US. Joe is making more money now that he ever has with HBO contracts to fight in the US paying 10's of millions each fight. It is likely that WIN OR LOSE there will be a rematch in the US with a possible trilogy (if Calzaghe loses) or Joe fighting another fighter in the US after Jones. Calzaghe had a good career but hasnt made the bigger money yet. Fighting for another year in the US would give him that. Joe Calzaghe recent retirement announcement is possibly just a ploy to boost ratings for his next fight.
Unofficial Transcript of Calzaghe vs. Jones Negotiations how it all went down:
Roy Jones Jr: Joe. You should fight me and not Pavlik.
Calzaghe: Roy, as much as I would like to have you on my resume I am not sure that I would win and I want to keep my perfect record intact.
Roy Jones Jr: Joe. **** that ****. Win or Lose you have nothing to lose.
Calzaghe: What do you mean Roy?
Roy Jones: If you Win.. which I wont let happen but lets just say if you do win then your record stays in tact but if you lose then it only sets up the chance for you to make $30M in the rematch. If its a good fight then there may even possibly be a trilogy. We could make $50-60M in 3 fights. Now ask yourself Joe. How is that losing?
Calzaghe: You've got a point Roy. I have made a name off of being able to say I am an undefeated fighter but havent made the real money that you have.
Roy Jones: Well.. now your ass has a chance. Dont ***** up, now. I'm 39 years old now. You might actually have a chance and I'll fight you in your backyard.
Calzaghe: Who are you calling a *****? I'll kick your arse. Straight stop.
Roy Jones: Now we are talking. Just sign the dotted line Mutha ****a.. just sign the dotted line.Last edited by Carlisle; 06-24-2008, 11:14 AM.Comment

Calzaghe: You've got a point Roy. I have made a name off of being able to say "I am an undefeated fighter in 12 years of boxing" but with the exception of a 45 year old Hopkins I haven't fought other great fighters OR made the real money that you have.

Roy and Joe are far too old to fight a trilogy. If I looked as bad as Joe did in his last fight, I'd be hesitant to fight again at all. Retire and then claim who he could've beaten if Warren hadn't been protecting him all those years.Comment

joe DOES have faster hand speed lol thats kinda obvious. ppl forget joe is coming to the end of his career except he has not lost yet. its all good bigging up roy on this one but i cant see nething other than a calzaghe win.
roy is a legend and maybe he does still have something there to pull what would be his biggest win in his career if he did somehow pull of a victory.Comment

This is a joke folks.. consider the source: Chris Tucker. Joe Calzaghe faster than Roy Jones Jr.? That has to be the funniest post of 2008.
