Joe Calzaghe Dumps Frank Warren, Targets Roy Jones Jr.

How it all went down:
Roy Jones Jr: Joe. You should fight me and not Pavlik.
Calzaghe: Roy, as much as I would like to have you on my resume I am not sure that I would win and I want to keep my perfect record intact.
Roy Jones Jr: Joe. **** that ****. Win or Lose you have nothing to lose.
Calzaghe: What do you mean Roy?
Roy Jones: If you Win.. which I wont let happen but lets just say if you do win then your record stays in tact but if you lose then it only sets up the chance for you to make $30M in the rematch. If its a good fight then there may even possibly be a trilogy. We could make $50-60M in 3 fights. Now ask yourself Joe. How is that losing?
Calzaghe: You've got a point Roy. I have made a name off of being able to say "I am an undefeated fighter in 12 years of boxing" but with the exception of a 45 year old Hopkins I haven't fought other great fighters OR made the real money that you have.
Roy Jones: Well.. now your ass has a chance. Dont ***** up, now. I'm 39 years old now. You might actually have a chance and I'll fight you in your backyard.
Calzaghe: Who are you calling a *****? I'll kick your arse. Straight stop.
Roy Jones: Now we are talking. Just sign the dotted line Mutha ****a.. just sign the dotted line.
I don't really credit any of what your saying above or any of the Calzaghe's scared of Pavlik since his stablemate got beaten up, because it's predictable and based on what if scenario's that could be applied to anything. It also shows extreme ignorance to Joes character. He's not the sort to say he'll retire next fight most likely, knowing he won't as often and recent as on a prime time talk show in the UK. He's just not, sorry to shatter you conspiracy theories, but sometimes things just aren't that complex, you know.Comment

Dude, your personal, subjective rants, which you seem to fob as with containing somewhat truth, are getting a little out of control. As if the first one wasn't enough, you go back immediately to repost it with bold in it, instead of editing the old one, lmao. Chill out man.

Calzaghe's been pulling this "last two fights" **** for years. I don't think it's particularly planned, he's not really someone who wants to put the 6 month training camps worth of work in any more. Can't blame him, but he still does it.
On Warren, this was rumoured before the Hopkins fight. Calzaghe has always said he was going to start his own promotion, so it makes sense to kick it off with his last (1 or 2) fight. Reckon you'll have the whole Calzaghe stable under there at some point in the near future.Comment

With retirement talk, so what he's gone further than the 16 months he once said, big deal, not like it's that much beyond it. It's longer than he anticipated. I fought he's a loser for not fighting Pavlik and fighting for longer to "prove himself" yet here he's now being criticises for not retiring exactly when he said he would, lol he can't win.
He's had big fight options arise late on and is taking some of them on. Thats admirable he decided to go further than he wanted. He's said it openly numerous of times this year 1/2 more fights. As soon as back at London Heathrow airport he was video interviewed saying he'd probably have one more fight, but was cautious to say they could be famous last words, but most likely one more. He said something in press conferences or other interviews post Hops I think, numerous interviews on his site, BBC, several reliable sources, videos interviews, recent interviews on TV.
That is why it deserves far more credit if you actually keep up to date on him, than some comment once or twice about Roy or Kessler. Fact is despite being conveniently being called scared to fight Pavlik, he fought Kessler whom is regarded as the better boxer, and probably favoured against Pavlik, hmmm. So much of it is so subjective excuses to suite a particular view, making stuff out of nothing, it really is. Ppl are just desperately cynical for there to be something deeper, more meaningful, bad reasons behind things, when really there's just not lol, go and watch a soap opera if you want to speculate to such extensive extents.Last edited by Kris Silver; 06-24-2008, 12:30 PM.Comment

If you get off of Calzaghes **** maybe you could see clearly.

There comes a time when certain fighters no longer need traditional promoters behind them. This is precisely why promoters like Bob Arum, seem bitter when they can't get a cut of a fighters purse anymore. Floyd, De La Hoya and Calzhage can sell out there fights without the need of these type of traditional promoters. Fighters taking more control of there careers is a beautiful thing. Years ago fighters would end up broke as a result of mismanagement and shady dealings with certain promoters. Fighters are now focusing on the business side of there careers and hopefully that will be good for there long term prospects.Comment
