And im surprised as **** to see so much hate towards Kball. He knows what he is talking about and he loves the sport of boxing.

I think we got way to many putos on the scene that don't really watch boxing. And maybe show up for some hbo or ppv fight and see a ko and think every boxing match ends in a brutal ko, well im here to tell those ignorant fans that most boxing matchs go the distance.

And really as Kball has mentioned in the old days they used smaller gloves. But remember they also fought 3 times more then they do today unless your a Mexican boxer or from South America or your a journyman whos career is a journyman then you have tons of fights.

Not to long ago they used 6oz gloves all the way to the minimum weight to heavweight.

Whats funny is how you want a welterweight to wear 10'oz gloves yet you will allow a heavyweight to wear those same gloves. Ain't that some funny ****.

I've been a boxing fan for a **** load of years. And the boxers who have died in boxing where in boxing matchs that went on many rounds, where the corner, or ref could have stopped the fight but didn't. TELL ME OF A FIGHT WHERE ONE FIGHTER WAS KILLED FROM ONE PUNCH INSIDE OF 6 ROUNDS?

The wrong area of the problem is getting changed and where the problem is nothing i happening. Left hook tua said it best that refs, and corner men should be accountable. They should have stopped the fights earlier. But sure no one man is to blame.

If you really a boxing fan, then tell the boxing commision to teach the refs and cornerman to stop a fight when the fighter is getting overly hurt. The Europeans retire, but in America or other its not macho to quit. Yet, sometimes the ref doesn't do its job, nor does the cornerman or they are simple caught up in the fight. After all boxing is all about what the last punch can do - as in change the fight around.

I think we have more putos on this board or the boxing fan has changed to see less activity in a boxing match.

What some of you guys don't understand is that a boxer conditioned the way he is supposed to be can indure a lot of pain and there skill level will be that much better.

Sure some of you 2 a day boxers go to the gym sparr with 16'oz gloves and think they hurt like a son of a ***** and you don't go sparring till another month or more. So you can't adapt to the power from the 16oz gloves.

If you're a real amature boxer you understand that within time you can learn to take a hit. Sure, someone that punchs hard just punchs hard. But after a while 16'oz gloves become nothing and cushion all the power cause you've leant to take a punch or your body has learnt to take a punch and if you everyday you learn about defence.

With these bigger gloves you are going to see less competitive boxing matchs cause not every boxer trains as they should. I can tell you right now. That a great manager can get any or most ordinary boxer to a record of 20-0 with 15 ko's and thats with 10'oz gloves, they'll have you thinking he hits like superman and it has little to do with the 10'oz gloves but more to do with the opponet.

6'oz gloves should be the standard.
It always cracks me up when I see someone your age talking about how "many years" they've done this or that...I've been a fight fan for more years than you've been alive. But hey, kudos, kid, glad to see your age group taking such an active interest in the sport.

As for showing hate towards Kball...most on this thread have just disagreed, I didn't see many hateful displays, except maybe from a few that I've come to expect to be hateful.

              Anyway, that's not my point...

              This is:

6 oz gloves WILL CAUSE MORE CUTS AND BROKEN BONES. BOXING IS NOT A BLOOD SPORT. We don't need the additional cuts, broken bones, etc. It really has nothing at all to do with additional danger of brain damage, and in fact, as I stated before, heavier gloves mean more kinetic energy and a better chance of a KO, so in a very realistic sense the chance of brain damage or death is higher with the heavier gloves, but the risk is still minimal, provided the ref and other ringside officials are doing their job.

if u want safety for fighters, than smaller gloves are the way to go. its true there will be more cuts and bruises, but i rather see them severely cut or bruised than have severe brain damage. dont you???

im not sayin, we go down to bare knuckle styles or 2 oz gloves and stuff, but 10oz gloves for lightweight n stuff is ridiculous. 16 oz for heavy is ridiculous. 12 oz or maybe 14 oz should be the max. for the lower weights like, they should be proportionate to a heavyweight at 14 oz.

Eg: under super flyweight should be 4oz
                Bantamweight to super featherweight 6oz
                lightweight to super welterweight 8oz
                middleweight to light heavyweight 10oz
                cruiser to heavy 12oz.

                something like that.
First of all i see u defend your arguments ia a respect fashion and i like that...ill expose u my arguments...

                1. Hands arent made to beat people up, and to receive continuos harm treatment. Hand injuries is something u never really completely heal, i have had injuries in both hands time ago and im already affected by that, and i seriously doubt i will ever have my hands wealth as good as years ago. And some of them had been with big weighted gloves

                2. I think that if u go the distance, less padded/weighted gloves will cause more brain damage, aprat of course from cuts and broken bones...

                3. In the most cases the glove doesnt care speaking with power...what u get with smaller gloves is to harm more your opponent, and a KO doesnt mean that....a KO is not thinking, this is hurting me too much im gonna give up , is to receive a blow that makes your body act without ur intentions ( i cant explain myself well in english) and go down, that is caused by power, not by hurting your opponent with extra pain.

4 and most important, i thought there it was 8 oz gloves for all weightclasses and 10 from cruisers and heavies....at least is like that in Spain and i thought thats reasonable........if u get hit with 8 oz gloves u will see what im talking, that is enough weight, less will be harmfull....

                • I dont know about the U.S and the glove size here, But I think theres some countries where 8.oz is still acceptable, It still happens you just gotta ask for the fight to be held in the right place if you really wanna have a fight to be done like that.

                  • MMA people are not getting punched purely, there are grapples and such. In boxing you will mainly get punched, I suppose you can get elbowed and headbutted but the majority of the time it's punches. 4oz gloves the risk of serious injury would increase greatly. When I watch a boxing match I don't really want to see people get slaughted I want to see the skill of boxing.
