I wouldn't be surprised if Hearns would outbox Pavlik to a decision, he was a very good technical boxer when he wanted to.

If Hearns trades with Pavlik, it would give Pavlik a chance to win by knockout but Hearns could always put Pavlik out with his right hand as well.

Hearns didn't like to be roughed up on the inside and Hagler really brought it. Hearns had to spend as much energy as he did becuase he needed to land something big and get Hagler's respect, which didn't happen. Hagler didn't allow Hearns to box, he threw him out of his game plan by immediately going to the body and bringing the fight to him from the opening bell. Hagler was and would have always been a bad style match up for Hearns.

If there is anyone that Hearns had a shot at beating was Leonard and Barkely. He could have boxed Barkely is he had played it safe and didn't try to get him out. He was clearly winning the fight and dishing out a beating before he was caught cold in the 3rd round. He fadded against Leonard and was slowly broken down from Ray's body attack. He was easily out pointing him until round 8 when he was staggered. The fight started to shift from that point on. Tommy was horrible at pacing himself and reacting to being hurt.

It was gonna be a battle in the inside regardless of anything becuase thats what both fighters wanted. Hearns never and I repeat NEVER wanted to outbox Hagler. Hearns has never looked good on the inside and even if he tried to box Hagler, the combination of inside fighting and Hagler's natural advantage in size and strength would have been too much for Tommy to handle. Just take a look back at every fight that Hearns was forced to fight on the inside. Hearns is a technical boxer and has no inside game whatsoever. If you let him box you from a distance and don't bother to bring pressure or get on the inside, then he would overwelme you. If you bring pressure and muscle him and is able to take his punches, then you would usually have a shot at out lasting him.

I think THAT was Hearns problem + his chin, he couldn't fight on the inside and to make things worse he couldn't clinch properly either. He could've escaped with a win had he just learnt to tie up an opponent properly.

He could fight in the inside. He just didn't know how to clinch. Duran did a good job cliching aginst Hagler. Too bad Hearns couldn't do it.

Was duran overrated? I was never a huge fan of him, because I listen to this radio station called Preston and Steve*it's a kick ass radiostation you can download all there pocasts online dating back to even 2005!!! It helps me get through the work day*, Btw on that show steve said that he heard that Duran was overrated because he hand picked his opponents and when he stepped up his opposition he quit on the stool. They didn't say which fighter it was cause they didn't know much about it.

no way.....he dominated everyone at lw and then stepped up a weightclass as he was ending his prime, and then took on heaps of big names, dominating the best one (srl). and then beating barkely at mw. he was fat and past his prime at higher weights. p4p duran kills them all

Duran quit on his feet, not his stool (not that it makes it any better).

Duran didn't handpick his opponents, but his management (Carlos Eleta) did steer him away from certain matchups. They cancelled a fight with Carlos Ortiz and said Duran was sick, but Duran really wasn't. Eleta also nixed fights with Antonio Cervantes @ 140 and a rematch with Ken Buchanan.

I think Hearns' best chance would be to knock Pavlik out early but if the fight goes past 6 or 7 rounds, Pavlik's workrate and stamina could start catching up to Hearns and it just takes 1 good shot to knock Hearns out late.

Right now? Hearns by late KO. I like Pavlik alot, but havent seen anything that tells me he could beat Hearns.
