He's not ducking anyone. He's already proven himself many times over, he's now age 36, he doesn't need to anymore! 45 fights, 17 years winning every fight - he deserves our respect, more than any other active fighter!

If he defeated Pavlik, the haters would start calling Pavlik a bum. It's better for Kelly that he and Joe never fight.

other than cotto vs margarito, its the best fight boxing can offer. what makes you think joe beats pavlik? of pavlik beat jones, everybody would say look at joe against b-hop. that shows he is not world class and was over matched against pavlik. who cares about excuses? just make it happen.

I know this isn't in Kelly's personality but he has to start talking **** about Calzaghe to get Calzaghe pissed off enough to want him. The only one talking **** is Kelly's manager. Kelly is so damn shy, Calzaghe has always been a **** talker in his career before his name ballooned up after the lacy fight. I've seen his older press conferences and he talked mad **** about the fighters he fought, kind of to get at them similar to what Mayweather did.

I wish things were more clear, because I'm not sure who doesn't want this fight... Is it Calzaghe or is it Pavlik? No one has clearly said who is ducking!!! Someone needs to speak up

I'd fight Pavlik for 1 dollar for the legacy if I truly felt like I could beat him. Obviously joe doesn't feel confident in that fight. I feel like maybe most of us fans of Calzaghe overrated him, because he wanted that fight until lockett got destroyed... And lockett was never that great but something obviously shook joe the wrong way
I wouldn't mind seeing a Calzaghe/Pavlik fight too, but I really don't think it would be much different from his fight with Kessler. In fact, I think Pavlik will be a little easier (right now) than Kessler for Calzaghe to beat. He's slower and more hittable.

In reality, though, I think Calzaghe is making the right choice, whether it's the one I'd like or not. He's retiring, needs to cash in BIG time before he does, and the bigger money is in the Jones fight. I'd be surprised if he didn't make well over double against Jones than he would've made against Pavlik.

I'd actually rather see a Calzaghe rematch with Kessler than either of the above, or even better, a Pavlik/Kessler matchup.

My point is this: Don't start talking **** about what you would do, or that you'd fight for a ****ing dollar bill (what a bunch of horse**** that is) just to preserve your "legacy". That ****ing legacy won't pay your bills when you're old and most people don't remember you, but the interest from that cold hard 20 mil you have in the back from that Jones fight sure as **** will.

I agree with what your saying in general just not about Pavlik getting beat like Kessler , as Kessler had the fight just not the balls to take it , Kellys different than Kessler anyway another topic , I also dont think Jones is worth double , a little more maybe , the fans of boxing know Roy is shot , so where does the big money come from for Roy , the UK man in the street , he dont give a **** anyway whether its Manfredo or Kessler , Hatton just proved that , people are trying to put this huge gap between Roy and Kelly in the marketing sense , I dont buy it , I just dont think that money gap is very big at all when its all said and done , Cal gets the lions share either way , I feel its straight up Risk vs Reward .
Kelly would kill Cals legacy and reputation in an instant if he were to win , a 26yr old upstart knocks Cal out , man the call of fraud would be sung very loud , and its more than a slight chance that might happen , Calzaghe is not risking that at this stage , and who can blame him .

Your mistake is in assuming this fight will be marketed to BOXING fans. No, this fight will be marketed to alot of the same type of fan that bought that last Tyson fight......The ones that know who Jones is, sort of like to watch a "Big" fight, and don't mind blowing $60 on it. Also remember that it will most likely be marketed, in part, as a "America Vs THE WORLD" sort of fight, to sucker in another million or so buys from more people who think they're boxing fans but in truth don't know a ****ing thing. My guess is that, while the PPV buys won't be astronomical, they will be considered quite good, and I don't see this fight happening unless both Jones and Calzaghe make near 20mil or better. As for Jones getting the Lion's share...I don't know, I sort of think he'll realize this is his last big money fight, and will probably accept a 50/50 split. If he doesn't, he may not get another chance at a big money fight.

Roy is gonna get more then Pavlik, THEREFORE Joe wouldnt get as much DAMN..people in here are slow

Co-sign. Joe C wants Roy for the $. I don't think he's scared of Pavlik. I'd pick a past prime RJ to win over Joe at 175 before Pavlik at 168.

Roy is a much, much bigger PPV draw than Pavlik is right now so there will be much, much more money to split. Has Pavlik even had a PPV fight?

And I wouldn't pick Roy to make it past 8 if he doesn't find some way to slow Calzaghe's pace, something I don't think can be done. He'll be gassed by 5, and totally blown by 7. Finishing on his feet will be something I hope for, but the more I think about it, I don't expect it. I don't want Roy to be beaten and humiliated in his last "big" fight, but I'm beginning to think it'll probably happen unless he gets some serious ****ing conditioning training. I'd give Pavlik a better chance, just because he's in superb condition and can easily keep up with Calzaghe, and he might, just maybe, land a good combination and hurt Calzaghe in deep water, but the chance of that is minimal. I do think that Jones will look good against Calzaghe during the first few rounds, though. If he has a chance to KO Calzaghe, it'll be within 4.
