Pavlik is the middleweight champion, on top of that he's still young and unproven (career wise) compared to Calzaghe. Calzaghe is at the point of his career where he needs to fight someone who's more established. If Pavlik was a lhw then the fight would make perfect sense, but Calzaghe probably can't make smw anymore, and Pavlik has said that he will only fight Calzaghe for the smw titles. Maybe after Jones we might see Pavlik-Calzaghe.
