kid is good. he's a middleweight and he's on the mat with a super heavyweight in the absoulto (no weight class) finals at the pan americans.
Obviously, being a Gracie (and likely having armbarred the doctor who delivered him as a baby swiftly after popping out) he's gonna have superb grappling.

The problem with the Gracies is that they still view stand-up fighting as somewhat a necessary evil that they have to learn.

Ralek Gracie just fought at Dream 4, and though he won, his stand-up looked worse than Royce's in the first UFCs. Renzo is the only Gracie to really ever look to develop his striking. It's a liability for them, and unless the next generation of the family embrace it, I don't see them getting far in the future world of MMA.

Loads of respect to Ralek though, he was originally going to compete in an exhibition grappling contest, but he stepped in at the last minute to fight a hard hitting undefeated Russian Sambo expert.

everyone is down on the gracies but people forget royce , royler , rickson and them are in their 40's. rickson is 50.

the new generation is coming up. kron is great. roger is dominant. they just to need to crosstrain in boxing and wrestling more. the 3rd generation will do fine.

people make fun of the 2nd generation because they were one dimensional but how do people expect them to change when they're already 35-40 yrs. old.
Sakuraba is older than every gracie except rickson but not many take note of that. And all the gracie ownage came after he got owned himself by wanderlei and fujita

Are you talking about Sakuraba when you say "gracie ownage"? Because he's never fought Fujita and he fought Wanderlei after defeating the Gracies.

they're hardheaded because of rorion's and others view that as a self defense all you need is GRACIE JIU-JITSU.

technically it's correct. if you take a guy in a fight that doesn't know grappling and submissions and you take a guy that knows brazilian jiu-jitsu ONE on ONE more than likely the bjj/judo/sambo guy will win.

problem with competing in mma is the fact that most everyone knows at least some bjj. easier to learn submission and takedown defense than to actually be good enough to do submissions.

plus in mma if you're fighting a gracie or another bjj black belt......game plan is simple. DON'T GO TO THE GROUND!

that sambo guy has knocked out like 6-7 of his opponents and was 7-1. if ralek can learn some basic striking he'd be a quality mma guy. the kid is only 22. he's already a beast on the ground (duh.....he's a gracie afterall) all he needs to concentrate on is to just be okay in boxing and kickboxing and he'll do okay.

                      You havent been paying attention.

Almost every great mma fighter was a world class competitor at 1 specific discipline before stepping into mma
