great question my friend
Oscar De La Hoya: "Floyd Didn't Want Cotto - I Do!"

Vernon Forrest and Winky are both too big for Oscar, especially at his age now.. De La Hoya is a fat welterweight who allowed himself to get out of shape and is the reason why he now fights where he is at..
If he can't make welter IMO he should just retire because he cant at all compete at middleweight vs anybody.
I think it's unrealistic to want him to fight Winky or Forrest though.. too much of a size difference. Y'all just hating on the guy.. I think he should have retired after Mayorga.. but since he still at it.. he should take a competitive fight that he can win, do his thing and just retire. That way he will get the final victory and last huraah hes always wanted and he can leave boxing in peace and alone.
He was trying to protect his investment of course.. if you are making money of a fighter wouldn't you want him to win? Anyway, because Oscar gave him advice doesn't mean it was bad advice or bad sparring partners.. It's that Ricky Hatton is at a lower level then Floyd and it wouldn't of help him anyway.. Someone more suitable could have used the same resources and prob done great!
To be fair, Forrest and De La Hoya were olympic teamates, Oscar at no point and no time ever intended to fight Vernon, nobody did, Vernon called out oscar for years and was largly ignored. Same with wright, Wright/Forrest/De La Hoya were in the same division at the same time, Forrest in particular as i said, called out DLH for years and their connection stems back to 1992. Oscars best weight was arguably 154, at welterweight he may have been even better, the idea hes a "fat welterweight" is a really bad stretch, i question if you saw him fight at that weight to even say that.Comment

you know what though, if i was oscar i wouldnt have fought wright or forrest, they were virtually garunteed losses, especially prime forrest. his showing against quartey kind of made me think twice about that fight ever happening and his showing against mosley in the first fight made it even worse.Comment

Sorry kid, you claimed he ruled over the division. Simply winning the title doesn't equate to a ruling. He didn't beat any of the top challengers to the belt today. Joe C doesn't rule LH either, he hasn't defended it.
You're confusing winning the title and actually defending successively over many fights.
He defended it against Ricky Hatton, granted that was one defense, it was a fight that needed to happen. 2 Undisputed Linear champs in one fight, while it wasnt against an actual welter, he defended it once, won, and let it go, his reign over the division was contraversial and breif, but again, weather you like it or not, he ruled over that division. Vernons reign was breif, Spinks reign, Mayorgas etc, they still were the undisputed champs of that division, i didint say he ruled over the division for years, i said he ruled it, and if you respect the linear title, then by that definition he did, again, if you dont, thats how you feel.Comment

That's common sense. Duh!
Please use a little bit more.
Fake Floyd is a coward who handpicks opponents.
Men ten times smarter than you have argued extensively on that.Comment
