This doesn't mean the fight won't happen and it doesn't mean Calzaghe has ducked Pavlik.
    Good post.

What I honestly think has happened is that while Pavlik is screaming for the fight, Arum won't let his pension fund get derailed unless he has no choice (ie. against a mandatory)

Calzaghe said Pavlik's team don't appear to want the fight as much as they let on, which I would conclude as Arum making a lowball offer in the hope Joe refuses.

Oh please people - you don't actualy think for one second that Bob Arum is afraid to put Pavlik in the ring with someone who can't hurt him do you?

I don't want to hear about the $$ thing either, two Undefeated fighters like Pavlik and Calzaghe will sell more tickets than Roy Jones will these days, and I know that because I worked the Jones vs Tarver fight, AND the Jones vs Johnson fight and saw for myself that Jones doesn't have the drawing power that he used to have.

The TRUTH is Calzaghe just wants a "W" so he needs to fight his fellow "over the hill gang" -- he is over the hill himself !!

Pavlik would throw Joe a beating, and if you know anything about boxing, you know Pavlik beats Calzaghe to a pulp, Joe could barely handle an old Hopkins, where was all the footwork and all the boxing skills you nuthuggers talk about? The answer is - he doesn't have it anymore, he has no pop left in the gun.

People who call Joe "40Cal" don't know a "22Cal" when they hear it, because Joe's punches are more like a "BB" gun compared to Pavliks' punches, if anything it is Pavlik that would bring a 44Magnum to the fight....

this things been done to death and most people acknowledge that if joe can unanimously beat kessler hed follow the same blueprint to beat pavlik. pavlik is a good fighter but he has to show that he has more in his locker to beat joe, ho would school pavlik.

imo joe wants the fight wth RJJ because RJJ bring in the money. joe has chased this guy for years and has respected his accomplishments and imo on a personal level i think joe would rather face RJJ.

Predictable, as he knows Pavlik is much more dangerous than RJJ at this point in their careers. But then, like I said in another post -- Enzo has protected Joe his entire career, and after hearing Pavliks' punches land on Lockett, he knew Pavlik would throw Joe a beating.

All of you Calzaghe nuthuggers should bow your head in shame, because even you have to admit Joe Calzaghe is now, and has been, THE most protected fighter in the last 15 years.

Having faced only 3 decent challengers at most in his ENTIRE career, it's all about getting a "W" on the record for Joe -- not about fighting the BEST fighters out there....
          kelly beats Joe any day

Yes, I do believe that. Just because Joe might not be able to hurt Kelly doesn't mean that Arum wouldn't be afraid of Pavlik losing. Arum is notorious for bull****ting about fights he claims he wants to make. Doesn't mean he is now, but we just don't know.

How do you explain the PPV numbers for Jones Jr vs Trinidad then? Roy is still a huge draw, particularly in the international market which you have predictably ignored.

No, no, no, no, no. Don't confuse your subjective opinion with the truth. We don't know the truth and we likely might never know it. You may be right.

Seriously, if knowing anything about boxing means having this opinion, I'd rather be ignorant. Suffice to say I disagree. In fact, I think Pavlik is made for Joe stylistically. A straight punching pressure fighter is exactly what Joe ordered and this is coming from a huge Pavlik fan, who in many respects want him to beat Calzaghe. I just don't think he can.

calzaghe will fight both RJJ and Pavlik before retiring. Assuming he wins the first one. After his divorce and lack of big fights at SMW he wants as much cash as possible.

No world class boxer would be afraid of fighting Pavlik. That is the ******est thing ive ever heard.

as much as i dont like calzaghe, and i would probably root for pavlik in their fight, calzaghe would box circles around pavlik. pavlik is one dimensional and relies on his power and work rate.. joe has faster hands, more experience, and is has been fighting at higher weights than pavlik so i dont think pavlik would bully him around.. joe would make pavlik look ****** in the boxing ring..
