Calzaghe Turns Down Kelly Pavlik, Wants Roy Jones

This is great news.

Calzaghe would get no credit for defeating Pavlik, the haters would say Pavlik is no good anyway because he's white and a blown-up middleweight (although he's taller than Joe). Defeating another young, two-title undefeated champion like Kessler, sad to say, wouldn't improve Joe's legacy.

Calzaghe should fight one or more of the following three: Jones, Dawson or Tarver. Then he should retire.

I have to say I think quite the opposite. I don't think Calzaghe will get any credit whatsoever for beating Jones.

You know if it were true that Pavlik is overrated then so be it. But Pavlik will fight anybody, hes said that many times. But then you have Calzaghe telling Pavlik he should build his record up some more!?!! Pavlik is 34-0, does he need to build it up to 45-0 before taking a "dangerous" fight? I think boxing fans want to see good fights, not undefeated fighters steamrolling tomato cans! I'd watch a Miguel Huerta fight over a lot of undefeated fighters anyday, and he has a "blemished" record.

I agree. I heard Calzaghe wants to wait until Pavlik is better known and until he turns 35. Seriously, Calzaghe's great but he does not want any of Pavlik. I also believe Jones (who will probably lose) will show him a thing or too, like Hopkins did. Joe looked scared after the first round. He was lucky to get that decision. It could have gone either way.

I agree, but Cal wasn't scared. He found it difficult to solve hop like many a boxer has.

Taylor and Miranda were overrated. Taylor never truly showed that he beat hop, and miranda is not in any class of elite fighters. 40Cal says pav should do a bit more, and i agree. You can't go around fighting So-So, and then think you can ask King Kong for a fight. You have to face Magilla, then mighty joe young before you get to king kong. lol

That is exactly what I'm saying. Why else would he want to fight Jones instead of Pavlik? If you think Jones is anywhere near as good as he used to be then your blind or drunk watching his last few fights. To me Calzaghe going after jones would be like Wlad going after Holyfield or Tyson.

Lets get one thing straight. Lockett was a grade A bum! Cal based his opinion off of Pav saying, nobody knew Cal before the hopkins fight, and never saying I want Cal. He didn't scream, I want Cal. He told Max that he never ducks anyone, and that he'll leave it up to his people. I will happen, just not now Cal said. Let it marinate. Let Pav get in there with a Abraham, a kessler, or even mundine.

Seems like CAL is the one who doesnt want the fight with Pav. Of course he would rather fight an old washed up jones who is not even close to what he used to be. Cal just doesnt want to let down his countrymen by getting whooped by an american.
