      • Gary Lockett and Enzo must have told Joe it is a bad idea to get into the ring with "The Ghost"

I think you judge on hype too much. We know Roy is a legend and was incredible in his prime, but dude, many believe Calzaghe was/is too, and is vastly underrated. Many in America are coming to realise he has to whatever extent been underrated, but I doubt many will accept he'd have beaten a prime RJJ. Fact is none of us know, but having watched many Roy and Joe fights it would have been close, it still will be close. They're similar in many ways, even roughly age.
Excuses need to stop already, it's a great matchup that would've been great years ago for whatever reason. For me Roy didn't really want anything of Roy, he barely made tight deals wit folk in him homelands let alone abroad. Glad it's happening now. Doubt Roy will get his 2 fight deal of one in Wales, one in the US. Hopefully Kelly next, but Calzaghes getting old too and it'd be a high risk match, a send off against Roy in his home country would be perfect.
I guess you just see at a different angle.

I remember a couple or three years ago I guess it was during the buildup to Lacy. Watching ESPN or whatever other boxing in America you would hear chatter about Joe Calzaghe and how he needs to step out of his country and fight over here if he wants to make a name for himself. Before that I doubt many americans had any clue who he was, I know I didnt and I follow boxing pretty closely.

And since then, he has beat a way overhyped fighter(Lacy), another fairly unknown fighter in the US(Kessler), and an old Hopkins. I only watched highlights of the Lacy fight but did see Kessler and Hopkins live. I thought Kessler gave a game effort but did just enough to loose. And Hopkins style and wear ended up getting the best of him.

So you have a guy thats 45-0 that has only fought one really big name as far as americans are concerned. I did recognize 7 of the 45 fighters he has fought names.

You guys in the UK talk about he should be the best SMW of all time when we over here dont know if most of his 45-0 record was built off of Gary Locketts.

I think I give up, don't think we will come to any kind of agreement here. All respect to you though, you've been mature in your arguments and I hope I have as well. I try to stay away from name calling and childish things but still try to express my thoughts strongly.

When I seen the Hanshaw fight I really prayed for him to retire, and most people I heard talking about the fight said that he should retire before he gets hurt. A prime Roy Jones would have destroyed Hanshaw. But instead it went to the cards with me only seeing maybe two good flurries from Jones. Before the fight Jones promised he'd show his hand speed and all those other things that we all loved him for. But he just couldnt physically do it, it was almost sad to watch.

I really think you have not seen him in a long time.
Cut him a little slack. He had several stitches put in his eye the week of the fight and still went through with it. After the fight he adressed the crowd before going to the press conference. He said thanks for coming out to support him and sorry that the performance was sub-par for him and that he would step it up in the next fight. Well, I was there and was present in the post fight press-conference and give him all kinds of credit for not cancelling the fight with stitches in his head from the basketball injury. I gaurantee that Joe Calzaghe would have called off that fight. Jones came back and fought well against Tito and knocked him down a couple of times while taking his best punches. That should speak for something , so show some respect. He is past his prime and I think he still has enough to beat Calzaghe. The Pavlik fight is not happening next, so please at least show some support for Jones since he will be confronting Joe "undefeated" Calzaghe.

                  • I'm not at all happy about this, but if you look back at Joe's track record on these things, he said he would NEVER fight Kessler, so I'm still hopeful.

I second that notion. 100%, no doubt about it. Would have been embarrased like Clinton Woods was. Oh, you say he that I should not compare Joe to Clinton? Okay then, embarrased like Hopkins (in his prime, not 43) or Toney was. There ya go. Let the replies begin.
