Unbeaten welterweight Andre Berto (21-0, 18KOs) is ready to achieve his dream on June 21 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis. For once, the WBC did the right. Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced his retirement last Friday, and the sanctioning body officially stripped him of the title he really defended and placed it up for grabs when Berto, ranked at 1, meets Miki Rodriguez, ranked at 2. The fight will be televised by HBO. [details]

Nice Berto is gonna be in the big spotlight now.
He needs some exposure hes got some pretty good talent -
I would have loved to see berto vs. mayweather after berto had a few more fights. Styles are the same and thats the only way to beat mayweather. Any one else would have liked to seen it?Comment

Well I dont know Rodriguez and I dont know if hes a fighter who deserves a shot, but I definitely like the idea of Berto being a world champion. That will finally throw him right in the mix to be considered as an opponent of the other top fighters at 147.Comment

Co-sign. I don't know if this Rodriguez guy has a chance, but I doubt it. Berto wit a belt will have to step his game up next year. He can have a soft defense if he wants to, but after that he's gotta throw down wit one of the elite WW's and prove he belongs.Comment
