It sucks that Floyd has to retire..there is literally no one in boxing close to his level.......greats have fought greats throughout history.
Leonard had Hagler, Duran, Hearns, etc....
Ali had Frazier, Foreman, Sonny Liston, etc.
Robinson had LaMotta, Fulmer, Basilio..etc.
Floyd...wheteher you want to believe it or not had Castillo and Corralles..two guys he beat.
Floyds toughest challenges were Zu and Mosley in their prime and neither wanted anything to do with Floyd at the time.
So Floyd sees how big a star Oscar is and envies it...dreaming of a fight with him....Thats why Floyd moved up in weight in the first place to get Oscar.
Now at a weight class where he doesnt even belong his ONLY challenge is a young Miguel Cotto who is not even close to being a great......
Margarito???....didnt Wililams just beat him.
The point is that Maywetaher suffers from being the best in a weak boxing era....
Enjoy retiremnet Floyd...you deserve it.
mayweather avoided the most dangerous fights for him throught his career. of course he retires now to keep his cheap undefeated record ( castillo beat him) intact. an old dlh almost beat him last time so I guess he was a little worried plus he wanted no part of the cotto/marg winner. what a *****. good riddens
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has an opportunity in the future to further cement his status, a guy by the name of Miguel Cotto.
I don't believe this "retirement" talk.
And other greats in history have gotten to great status without having another "great" rival that they beat, but by beating good fighters for a reasonably long period of time.

Mosley in his prime was higher up in weight, and jumped to welterweight to chase a fight with De La Hoya. That wasn't a case of Mosley "not wanting anything to do with Floyd".
Same with Tszyu. When Mayweather went up to 140, Tszyu was at first injured and inactive, and then lost to Hatton shortly before Mayweather beat Gatti.
Furthermore, Tszyu was an exclusive Showtime fighter and Mayweather was/is an exclusive HBO fighter.
Unless you can generate $100 mil in PPV like Lewis and Tyson, guys exclusive to rival networks aren't gonna fight.

floyds best work will be remembered at 130, he was too much of a NON-risk taker that he had to be foreced or convinced to fight a top fighter. You saying he didn't have anybody to challenge him tells me you just started being a fan of him not to long ago.
I think if he fought Cotto and Margarito the three of them could have been SIMILAR in ways to hearns/srl/hagler. I think they would have been great fights. It's a shame Floyd never fought either of them, so we'll never know (not for now anyways).
cotto and margarito ain't hearns and hagler... thats just plain blasphemy.
