I think people don't understand the evolution of boxing as it progresses. Yes, Sugar Ray Robinson may have been the best of his time, but that doesn't make him capable of beating people from now just because of that.

Training, technique, athleticism, knowledge, etc. -- all of that has evolved and grown. This is why it's ****** to compare present fighters to past fighters.

Anyway, just wanted to let that out. Now I'll let a bunch of people come in here and tell me how I am wrong and hug SRR's nuts a little bit more even though half of them have probably never seen him fight, but they think the world of him anyway (despite his being a total douchebag outside of the ring).

Put a prime SRR in the ring with a prime Roy Jones and you'll see Ray get his ass beat from pillar to post....sorry.

Its kinda like how the 100 meter dash went from like 10.4 for the world record down to 9.74......hell college kids are running 10.1's.

I have more of a problem with people talking about "the good old days of boxing" and forget about all the ****ed up things that the old days had.

Thank you. It's called progress. Things improve as days go by. It's just the nature of things. You guys can nuthug SRR all you want, but he doesn't have **** on some of the best of today, just like there will always be fighters in the future that will be better than the ones today.

..... Yeah, throwing in a guy who fought most of his prime at Welter against RJJ would prove something?

Yeah, prove that people who make up some of these fantasy matches are ****ing ******ed.

One thing you should keep in mind is that Robinson was weighing in the same day. If he could have weighed in today a prime welterweight Robinson would have been a lightweight and wiped the floor with top guys there now. Believe that. The only top welterweights now who could make weight the day of the fight would be Mayweather and maybe Judah.

I don't know, Robinson looked pretty impressive in the 6th fight with LaMotta.

And that was above his best weight class and after 120 or so pro fights.

I disagree. The tapes I've seen of Robinson and Pep show they are great fighters and could hang with them. I think some of the sluggers back then would get beat, but even a fighter like Charley Burley seemed very elusive, great defense, and a nightmare for anyone.

Some of the older fighters fight the way the fighters today fight, I don't see much difference from Robinson compared to today's fighters.
